I think that they should type some of their essays, but not all of them. While learning about technology and how to type in school is very important and will be used in life, writing is also very important. Many people are losing the skill to write, especially in cursive, which I believe is bad. Writing is one of those skills that is important because people need to know how to sign their names, and some aspects of life will require handwriting skills, such as some job applications. Another way teachers could incorporate both typing and handwriting skills in their fourth-grade classrooms is by having their students write and type all essays. The teachers could have their students first write all of their essays by hand. Then, they could have their students type out a final copy of their essays. The teacher could require the students to turn in both the handwritten and typed copies of their essays to them for grading.

Not to mention, there are often computer/typing classes given throughout elementary school. Kids now have access to technology at such a young age like fourth grade or even younger. There are many technology classes now given to students that they will be able to learn how to use a computer and even write essays on them. I feel that it is important for students to learn how to use a computer at a young age because the technology world constantly changing and becoming more relevant in today's world than it used to be. However, I also think it is equally important to teach students how to write essays on paper too. I think this because these kids are still young. They have so much to learn, and they are still sponges when it comes to soaking up knowledge.
