In both the reconstruction and modern era, wealth is such an abundant commodity among the upper 9.9% of the economy that the lower classes were often treated with little to no respect. 

In the Reconstruction Era, parties were thrown mocking the poor. 

While less outspoken in the modern era, the 9.9% still share remnants of disdain for the lower class.
