As role models, we take the opportunity to reflect on leadership with our students. We design tasks that promote independence and help develop lifelong leadership skills. We create jobs and responsibilities that allow students to contribute to the community, preparing them to face real-world challenges and successfully manage their daily tasks in the future.

In the morning, I have students sitting on the carpet and I go over all the student's names by taking attendance using the Well Wishes conscious discipline method. I have students make a heart with their hands and say the name of the students that are absent. I remind students to tell their friends that they were missed when they come back to class.

Westward Expansion Quilts: Students paired up to create a quilt similar to the ones the pioneers used when traveling in their wagons, giving facts learned in the Unit about the Westward Expansion.

As a team we come together and discuss the lessons and how to make connections to enhance more student engagement. For example, when amplify gives us the culminating activities we are able to stretch the students learning with a collaboration of discussing activities and practice implementation.

Sam Houston identifies the language policy in a way that multilingual learners can thrive in their learning. My favorite student activity this year has been for students to draw themselves as a king or queen as they made connections to the literacy unit. Students recorded their voice on an app to talk in first person point of view to tell what they would do if they had a kingdom. Students had the autonomy to select their perfered language(s).

In my classroom, students are supported with activities that enhance their social, emotional, and physical well-being when they are provided with CKH "good news" conversations, brain breaks for mental relaxation between subject areas, and physical activities to promote movement and active play. Students enjoy having these activities in class and like to share about how they feel when these activities are completed.

Students are encouraged to share their creative thinking through:

-working in groups to problem solve

Teachers provide flexible grouping of students to maximize Learning-The School provides opportunities for students to collaborate based on their learning.

Students of different ability levels collaborate, allowing for peer learning where stronger students can help others while reinforcing their own understanding. Our Amplify curriculum lends to this practice.

-Students actively collaborate in a partner/group setting to think/research/communicate.

-Students develop social skills and self-management skills through productive struggle and working together.
