It was put in place to advertise a whites-only area at the time and it also has connections to Palm Springs becoming a space that was prominent for those in the film industry when studio contracts of the time would limit actors’ travels, and the presentation of stolen land being open for all in movies. This piece also addresses the history of colonization in America, and calls for “settler landowners to participate in the work by transferring land titles and management to local Indigenous communities."
