In a big city, like Austin, there are a ton of cars, which means there is a ton of oil in our watersheds. If oil or gas leaks out of a vehicle, it will immediately impact the waterways when it mixes with water. Only 1 drop of oil can pollute 25 gallons of water!

If oil gets into our waterways it will spread over the surface in a thin layer which will prevent oxygen from getting to plants and animals in the water. Oil can:
-harm animals and insects
-prevent photosynthesis in plants
-disrupt the food chain
-drain into the soil and contaminate plants

Oil also takes a long time to remove.
