The most interesting piece of information to me that was mentioned in Chapter 9 is Ainsworth 3( to 4) levels of attachments and the different types of parenting styles. Attachments are strong emotional bonds we have with special people, such as a parent, family member, or partner. The fact that a lot of us don't have the same attachment levels is very intriguing. I think these two pieces work hand in hand. Meaning, we all have different attachment styles because of many reasons such as a person that you cared for hurting you, or being betrayed by someone close, and etc. But I also believe that our attachment levels could also depend on what parenting style we've received as kids. As said on page 303 of the textbook, these attachment styles stick with us as we grow and might shape our later adult life. Which is why I also believe that healing from your own bad attachments is very important and everyone should go through a healing process in order to grow and later learn from it and use this as an example as to why you should try your best to give better parenting styles than the parenting style you've received.

I got 53 which is honestly pretty accurate. I'm very good with keeping myself motivated, which I do through disciplining myself. Meaning when I reach a goal of mine, or I see that i've been working really hard on it. I'd reward myself by going out or shopping. Whereas if I see that I'm slacking off, I'd rethink the situation, find other ways to keep me interested, and force myself to get my things done. (A plus is that I've realized that this has helped me stop procrastinating) As said on page 354 of the textbook,”Incentive theory: motivation results from external stimuli that “pull” the organism in certain directions.” My “pull” would be the fact that me doing a certain task like getting my work done and getting good grades will help make me more successful, which I guess makes my motivation more incentive based.

I scored a 51, which is reasonable. I am a little hard on myself but I perceive that as a good thing. I push myself because I know my potential and I plan to exceed it. I found that Rogers theory of congruence and inconsistency relates to me the most. According to the textbook on page 411, “If your real self and ideal self are nearly the same, with considerable overlap in the two circles, you have congruence between your two “selves” and a positive self-concept.” There are times where my real self and ideal self are perfectly overlapping. But every here and there the overlap between my real self and ideal self isn't as congruent as I'd want it to be; this is when I’d push myself the most to get back to well-adjusted congruence between my real and ideal self.

I scored a 29, meaning my internal locus of control is moderate and I believe that that's very accurate. I don't have this constant need to be in control because I know I can't influence every situation. I do however believe in fate and destiny, but not so much that I believe that I don't have to put in any work to get there. I believe that if things are meant for me then they'll come to me, but I still do need to put in the time and effort to reach it. As mentioned in the mindtools website, “You likely see your future as being in your own hands. As a result, you engage in activities that will improve your situation: you work hard to develop your knowledge, skills, and abilities, and you take note of information that you can use to create positive outcomes” This quote specifically resonates with me the most.

In my opinion, the most interesting piece of information that I've learned from this chapter was the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). As said in the textbook, page 447. “Imagine what it would be like to worry so obsessively about germs that you compulsively wash your hands hundreds of times a day, until they are raw and bleeding.” This sentence caught my eye because before even reading this chapter, I never knew how hard it could be having this disorder. I never thought of it as a disorder. I thought having an obsessive-compulsive disorder just meant a person was excessively organized and liked things set up in certain ways. I also found it very interesting that anxiety is what creates the obsession, which then causes the constant compulsion.

A favorite topic of mine was stress and how we can deal with it. On page 74, the textbook mentions seven major sources of stress; acute/chronic stress, job stress, cataclysmic events, life changes, conflict, hassles, and frustrations. There are many ways we could deal with stress, such as working out, taking a break from social media, and giving yourself some “metime”. I took the time to take the test on page 75 of the textbook under “Practical Applications: student stress scale”. I got a 207, which indicates a 50% chance of serious health problems within the upcoming two years, which I actually found very interesting. I personally don't take stress very well, so I try to avoid it at all costs. But at the same time, it is good to have a healthy amount of stress because if you think about it, would we really get anything done if we weren't stressed to a certain extent? At the same time, having to deal with too much stress is very unhealthy for a person mentally, emotionally, and physically. It's really important that a person finds a way to get rid or decrease bad stress and try to turn it into something more healthy and hopefully motivational.

Not going to lie, for a 3 credit class I do think that we are doing a lot more work then what we would do for a 4 credit class, but one thing I will say is that the work is relatively easy especially if you are putting in the effort. Another thing I'd like to mention is that the longer assignments are a bit time consuming but they are fun and way better than doing brainless boring work, we get to be creative in the discussion boards and that's something I appreciate. Lastly, I'd like to mention that your teaching style and the way you are so passionate about teaching your students really does rub off on us and motivates us to actually put in more effort into our work, so thank you!
