  • St. Giles --> he was known as a hermit and his one and only companion for most of his solitude was his beloved deer (also known as the red deer), who gave him milk occasionally. Part of his martyrdom was being shot by an arrow meant for his deer, which apparently made him known as the patron for the physically disabled.

I have been trying to learn (slowly but surely) how to do basic coding for a neocities site I want to make for Bugzwurld. In my initial ideas, I would like the site to be formatted like a map, with the different areas of Bugzwurld being clickable, taking you to pages that will tell you more about each area. Aside from this, I have been doing a lot of research on the different symbols present within portraits of saints, and I have been thinking about how to integrate concepts like different hand gestures in portraits conveying different meanings into my own practice and to build up the lore of Bugzwurld. I am very interested in Catholic aesthetics and I am trying to find ways to make that imagery my own while trying to take away the harmful aspects of Catholicism that I want to do away with.

I had a bit of a difficult time setting my piece up and was really stressed about whether or not it was up to par with my classmates work, but in the end, I am proud of the research I did and with my concept. I was on the curation team, and I curated the outside area. I also generally helped with setting up and whatever my classmates needed help with. Based on the feedback I got from friends I invited to the exhibition and from classmates, they thought my pieces reflected how much research I was doing for the project, and said that my writing that was included as part of my piece was well written and concise. However, they mentioned that I maybe should have included more in my piece description off to the side about St. Giles and explained further how I studied hand gestures at the church. In future iterations of this project, I think I would have liked to have incense paired with the piece to replicate the atmosphere of the mass I attended for this project, and I also would have made a few drawings of the inside of the church and metal pieces mimicking actual pieces I saw in the church to further replicate the feeling of being in St. Giles.
