As a school community, we can keep an open line of communication with their parents. We can also give extra time with assisting the child in their academics. Not only can we give extra time, we can provide one on one time with the child and their families.

Supporting families helps us honor the unique brilliance of students with disabilities because it allows the educators and community liaisons to use all resources that are going to help/ and or foster growth in the student's development. I feel like when dealing with students especially children with special needs in general it takes a village to ensure success. Family engagement also gives you more understanding when engaging with students and when creating a successful learning plan for students.

We can make sure first that we are actually reading the IEP or 504 plan and following the recommendations and help them communicate with things that work best for their child.

Having appropriate situations where parents are able to shadow their student and see how a day of school goes from them would be very beneficial to get to know their child's expierience in school

Encourage parents to discuss with their students what they've learned in class for the day. This will allow parents to see if their child is successfully comprehending materials being taught in the classroom.

Respecting the differences between cultures and how a household is run can help see the strengths students with disabilities already possess and inform us how to include those strengths more in their school environment
