Attached is my new character designs. I fully redesigned Liam to make him fit the story more, and I changed his color pallet. I added a scene of just Molly and Liam in which they chat about Lucia and what happened at recess. I also added a scene with Liam and Mrs. Johnson where Liam apologizes and gets Lucia out of trouble. These scenes help make the plot well rounded and make Liam’s turn around more sensible. I also changed my text technique for the Spanish dialogue. Lastly, I tried making my time transitions smoother by adding transition scenes rather than time stamps. I hope these all help to make the plot more readable and smooth. I plan on using my original storyboard as foundation, and then erasing all the text, and replacing it with new text techniques I learned from Stan Yan’s video lesson. Then I will look at my new storyboard and plan out my panels and pages. After week three, I plan to go back to the newly edited story board and replace my stick figures with real characters and settings. I went through my sketches to see which panels go well together on a page, which ones should be emphasized, and what the easiest layout would be. Then I sketched them all and labeled which panel and page each scene is on! This was very difficult for me and took more time than expected because I wanted every box to be neat, and I also wanted the boxes to reflect the importance and sequence of scenes. Once I made my panel and page templates, I filled the panels with my sketched scenes. I transferred all of my scene sketches into the new format, and cropped them and moved illustrations around so they fit. I know it doesn’t look perfect (and some of the text didn’t transfer), but that’s what I like. I like seeing what does and doesn’t fit so I can fix it in the final copy. I realized a lot of my scenes were wide and short, so I need to work on making them more box oriented to fit better. In the coming weeks I plan on taking care of these issues as well as shaping text to better fit in the panels. After watching the videos, I realized that the easiest way for me to work is by doing it all at once (redrawing everything in proportion and then coloring right after). I find that I like this technique because it helps me get a better sense of the finished product. Since this is my first comic, I had trouble thinking of what is should look like before it was colored. This method however has helped my creativity and visualizations. Unfortunately however, since I have been working like this, I have been moving very slowly. I underestimated how much time it would take to draw all the backgrounds and characters for the different panels and color them. On the bright side, I am totally done with my first page!!! I continued the steps described in my last post to complete all panels and pages. I learned a lot about the software along the way, so at the end, I went back and revised some text and images. It took a very long time to get here, and I am very proud of myself! The peer reviews were definitely helpful, and all te advice given to me was kept in mind throughout the process. I also reached out for additional feedback from my family and friends at home.
