This song is actually a great example of suddenness because everything changes in this song. The use of suddenness in this song is created by Kendrick when he changes the beat 4 times throughout the duration of the whole song. He first starts the song with a slow tempo beat where he raps about his way to the top. Then at 1:21, the beat suddenly changes to a beat with way more tempo then the previous one Kendrick was rapping on. He takes advantage of the beat change by taking shots at other rappers and calling himself the greatest rapper alive. He then again changes the beat at the 2:00 minute mark and is know boasting with all of the stuff he has now that he didn’t have before. About 50 seconds go by and Kendrick changes the beat again. With this last beat change Kendrick talks about how good his life is now and how he is one of the best in the rap game.

Everyone has had the experience of listening to a song and then being startled by a sudden change in either the emotion, tempo, or even just in the sound itself. Music often does the unexpected in order to express whatever meaning the composer intended. When looking for suddenness the key aspects to look for are sudden change in emotion, a change in the speed or rhythm of the song, or just any startling quality that draws you in and makes you pay attention to the song.

In this song, Travis Scott uses the area code 90210 which is the area code for Beverly Hills, California. Travis is using the 3rd person to talk about himself in the first half of this song. About halfway through the song the beat switches and Travis starts rapping about himself through his own perspective. Travis uses the sudden change in the beat to kind of like restart his song and rap about something different.
