They will also be able to know a keyword that starts with the letter, the sound of the letter, and be able to write the letter.
Materials:
Letter V: pipe cleaners and beads
Letter W: zip lock bags, lotion, food coloring, and a cotton swab.

Lesson steps for letter "v"
1. Each table will have pipe cleaners and beads in the middle of their table.
2. We will practice the "v" sound card multiple times before getting to this activity. Afterwards, we will both begin writing the letter by using the "sky, plane and grass line"
3. Students will then take one pipe cleaner and bend it to make a lowercase "v". Once they have done this, they can take the beads from the middle of the table and decorate their letter.
4. While they do this, they will talk amongst themselves, practicing the sound and thinking of words that might begin with the letter “v”.

Lesson for letter "w"
1. I will be passing out Ziplock bags with lotion in them and a cotton swab to each individual student (you can use food coloring to make it craftier!).
2. After going over the “w” sound card, I will demonstrate writing the letter by using the “sky, plane, grass line” model. I will then ask them to start writing the letter “w” into their bag.

4. Like the other activity, students will be encouraged to find other words that might start with the letter “w”.
5. They will sound out the letter and trace their completed "block letter" with their finger as they say the name of each letter.
Materials Needed:
Building Blocks
Letter Templates
Piece of paper for each student
Markers
Grouping: This will be a group/individualized activity as each student will make their own letter blocks, they can do so in groups at their table, however they will each make their own block letters for the lesson.
Lesson:
1. The lesson will begin with an introduction to the lowercase letters, s and w, we will first start with the sound of each letter and then move on to identifying the shape of each.
2. Next, I will model how to create the letter s using the building blocks, then I will inform each student that they will be creating their own "block letters" using the materials on their desks. There will be bins of blocks on each table, enough for each student to make their letters, in addition there will also be letter templates on each table that show how the letters are supposed to look, which the students can refer to during the creation of their letter block. Assistance will be provided as needed during the lesson, however, each student should be encouraged to create their block letters on their own as best they can.
3. As a class, once everyone has finished making the letter s, then we will trace the block letters and say the name of and the sound that the letter s makes.
4. The same steps will follow for the creation of the letter w, I will model how to create it and the children will create their own letter block. Then, as a class, we will trace each shape as we say the name of the letter and then the sound that it makes.
5. At the end of the lesson, the students will be encouraged to practice tracing over each letter, on their own, and say the name and the sound that each letter makes. Then, if there is time, they will be given markers and a sheet of paper to place next their letter blocks and be asked to draw the shape of their letters.

Idea credit: https://blog.allaboutlearningpress.com/creating-the-alphabet-with-building-blocks/

I will start off by introducing the letter of the day, the letter o.
2. I would ask my students what type of things can they think of that starts with the letter o.
3. As a class we would name objects that begins with a letter o.
4. I would then ask the class what sound does the letter o makes.
5. As I say the letter, I would be sure to make the sound clear so the students would understand.
6. I would then have the students repeat the letter and the sound back to me.
7. We will do this 3 times.
8. After the students grasp the concept of the sound I will then introduce them to the keyword, octopus.
9. I will say the keyword and then will have the students repeat it back to me just as they did the sound.
10. We will do this 3 times as well.
11.I would then pass out laminated o sheets to the students.
12. I will have them get out their dry erase marker out of their desk.
13. I will then have them trace the letter o on their laminated o chart.
14. While tracing the letters I would encourage them to make the sound and repeat the keyword.
15. After tracing the letter 6 times, I will then have them put away their dry erase marker and laminated o sheet inside their desk.
16. I would then begin to pass out material for the activity, starting with construction paper.
17. After the construction paper, I would then pass out scissors, followed by markers.
18. Lastly, I would give each student 2 plastic googly eyes.
19. I would then explain to them the activity, and how to make their octopus.
This activity was found on 123homeschool4me.

Title: Popsicle Letters
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Objective: Students will be able to identify the lowercase letter w, as well as its keyword wind, and it's sound /w/.
Materials:
-Popsicle Sticks
-Double Sided Sticky Dots
-Construction Paper
-Dry Erase Marker
- Laminated w Sheet
Grouping: Whole
Lesson:
1. After the students trace the letters on their laminated paper, I will begin to pass out the materials for the activity.
3. I will pass out construction paper, popsicle sticks, and 4 sticky dots to each student.
4. Then, I will tell them how we say it, meaning “a, apple, /a/.”

3. When we practice, I will say “start at the plane line, circle to the left down to the grass line, then come back up to the plane line and then make a straight line down to the grass line with a little tail.”

4. I will have the students repeat after me while writing the letter.

5. Then, I will make the students put their finger up in the air and practice writing it in the sky. They will take turns writing the letter “a” on the chalkboard with a piece of chalk. There will be a glove for them to put on and wear as they write with the chalk so the chalk doesn’t get everywhere on their hands. They will first write the letter and say out loud as they write “a, apple, /a/.” Then, they will use their finger that’s in the glove and trace the letter to erase it repeating “a, apple, /a/.” Then, repeat writing the letter “a” and erasing it with their finger.

Lesson steps:

Letter s

1. I will introduce the letter s and how to write it, the sound and ask them what words start with the letter “s.”

2. We will then say “s, star, /s/.” We will get out our pointer fingers and write the letter “s” in the air. I will teach them that you start at the plane line and snake your way down to the grass line to make a s. You start at the plane line, curve to the left downwards, then curve to the right downwards and end at the grass line. We will do this 3 times.

3. I will pass out their “s” worksheet that has dots on them. The students will now work on their s worksheet. The students write all the letters on a sheet of paper and cut them out in the shape of leaves, then the students draw a tree and glue the letter leaves to the tree. I got this idea from Teachers Pay Teachers. Here is the link to the page and a picture of the idea!
https://www.education.com/activity/article/alphabet-trees/

I had an idea of doing something like making letter-shaped tracks on the floor with duct tape and having the students trace them with cars. When looking for something similar, I found this activity book on Pinterest that I fell in love with! I suppose the book can be used for more individual based learning, and the tape tracks if you’re learning in small or whole groups.

This unit focuses on teaching the letter “S” through a sound card, recommended books (to connect with the letter “S” or use to help children identify the letter “S”), and with crafts for building and drawing the letter “S”. The developer of this page has made a weekly lesson plan for every letter of the alphabet and these can all be accessed on Pinterest. I thought that this was well organized and inspiring!
Pinterest Link: https://pin.it/zw463qnh6jsn7y

Students can build the letter with play doh or any other type of fun material you would like to use. Then they will write the letter with their pencil. After that, students will circle the pictures that start with that same letter. This lesson not only works on the students letter knowledge, but also works on their fine motor skills. This would be a great lesson for first grade.

First, show the students a picture card and have them identify what it is. Then, ask them to listen and decide how many syllables are in the word as you place the pool noodle pieces onto the spoon. The pool noodle pieces are a representation of how many syllables there are. We will use these cubes to represent syllables. When we say a syllable, touch and hold a cube for each syllable, when we combine the syllables, connect the cubes. Notice that the two cubes combine to make a bigger cube. This is exactly what happens when we combine syllables. When we combine two syllables, they form a word.
The teacher will tell the students, “Let’s practice blending syllables together. Students, I want you to use the manipulative cubes to represent the syllables. Use one cube per syllable. When we say the syllables combined, slide the cubes together and connect the cubes. Students, I want you to notice how the cubes fully connect and make a new shape. In the same way, when we combine syllables, the syllables form words.
Let’s blend some syllables together for practice, using a cube to represent each syllable, and putting the cubes together when you combine the syllables to form a word.
If I say the sounds /-c/ /-ow/, those sounds blend to make what word?
The teacher says /-c/ and grabs one cube; the students repeat the teacher.
The students say /-c/ and grab one cube.
The teacher says /-ow/ and grabs another cube.
The teacher slides the cubes together and says, /cow/.
The students slide the cubes together and says, /cow/
/-c/ + /-ow/= cow
The teacher will say, “Yes! That’s correct! The sounds /-c/ /-ow/= cow
The teacher says, “Great Job! Let’s do a few more together.”
Now, let’s blend these two sounds: /-b/ /-at/.
If say the syllables /-b/ /-at/, those sounds blend to make what word?
The teacher says /-b/ and grabs one cube; the students repeat the teacher.
The students say /-b/ and grab one cube.
The teacher says /-at/ and grabs another cube.
The students say /-at/ and grab another cube.
The teacher slides the cubes together and says, /bat/.
The students slide the cubes together and says, /bat
The teacher says, “Great Job! This represents the students taking a syllable out of the original word.
Ø The teacher will ask the students to say the word without the syllable.
Ø The students will say the new word.
Ø The teacher will ask the students to look at the pieces of play dough. The teacher will explain that the play dough represents the syllables and syllable deletion. There are multiple syllables in a word, if we remove one of the syllables, it will create a new word. Similarly, to how taking a piece of playdough changed the shape of the playdough.
Ø The teacher will begin the lesson by reviewing a syllable with the students.
Ø Syllable: a word or part of a word pronounced as a unit.
Ø Each syllable contains only one vowel sound.
Ø The teacher will explain to students that each word is composed of multiple syllables.
Ø The teacher will explain to students that this is called deletion.
Ø The teacher will explain to the students, when we remove a syllable from a word, it is defined as deletion.
Ø Then, the teacher will display the play dough. The teacher will instruct the students, “ I know that you all are responsible, respectful students and can take care of classroom belongings. Please do not touch the play dough until instructed to do so.”
Ø Then, the teacher will pass out the play dough.
Ø The teacher will say, “Okay students, we are going to practice deleting syllables. The lump of play dough is going to represent the word. The piece of play dough that you remove is going to represent the syllable that we are going to remove. I will say a word, I want you to repeat the word. I will say a syllable of the word that I want you to remove. I want you to repeat that syllable. Then, we will say the new word together. Ready?”
Ø The students will respond, “Ready!”
Ø The teacher will say, “Okay, the first word is grape.”
Ø The students will repeat, “Grape.”
Ø The teacher will say, “Please say the word grape without the sound /-gr/, and remove a piece of play dough from the lump.”
Ø The teacher will model this for the students. The teacher will hold the lump of play dough the teacher will say, “The word grape, without the /-gr/ , and the teacher will remove a piece of play dough is /-ape/.
Ø The teacher will say, “Let’s try another one.”
Ø The teacher will say the word, “pencil” .
Ø The students will say the word “pencil”.
Ø The teacher will say, “Please say the word pencil without the sound /-cil/, and remove a piece of play dough from the lump.”
Ø The students will say, “pen”.
Ø The teacher will provide the students positive, constructive feedback, “Great Job!

Level of phonemic awareness: Phoneme

Specific PA level skill: Segmenting Phonemes

Materials needed: Colored tape, desk area/space, notecards with words on them, white board

Description: The students will form tape bubbles, and use these tape bubbles as they are practicing 3 phoneme word segmentation. They will be given words and based off of the words provided or given to by the teacher they will stick a piece of tape on the desk in front of them when they hear a sound as they segment the words given. This will allow them to visualize the segmenting of words as they are hearing the sounds.

I DO: I will go over with the students as a class, some of the 3 phoneme words and we will tap them out together. This will be good practice for the students as we go further into the activity. I will hold up the index cards, examples of these are Dig, Hit, Bat, Bug, Chin, Pig. These six will be a good warmup for the students to do it on their own.

WE DO: As a class we will start to come up with four phoneme words. As a tale group the students will start to come up with words they think have four phonemes in them. I will again walk around and help them as well as observe what words they are coming up with.

YOU DO: The students will get a strip of tape and will form their own tape bubbles, based on our learning of 3 phoneme words they will come up with as many as possibly on their own using the tape bubbles to sound out the word. I will be walking around when this is going on and making sure students are staying on task and doing the words on their own.

Photos of materials:
