Besides providing on-site job coaching, these will also serve as employment and training hubs for inclusive recruiters. The plans are built on 21 recommendations by two workgroups on employment and independent living. Some of them were already launched in 2020, while others will be progressively implemented from later in 2021. Close to 300 people with disabilities have been trained (Singapore has a small population). 

This depicts career exploration as the students are learning through work where they are applying their learning with practical experience which helps them develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in their future jobs.

S2W offers customized training pathways and work options for students with a diverse range of disability profiles where guidance is provided to assist students in making a smooth transition into employment. Based on the individual vocational profile and needs of each student, suitable pathways are recommended. These opportunities include essential training and internships with the ultimate goal of securing full-time employment for students. 

According to Module 1’s presentation, career preparation refers to when students move beyond school and begin to explore jobs through opportunities such as hands-on shadow, remote and on-site internships. There are now and skills upgrading under three newly announced programmes - Place-and-Train, Attach-and-Train and Skills Development - are meant to complement existing efforts under the Open Door Programme administered by SG Enable that provides employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities. The Place-and-Train programme will place people with disabilities with employers and they will be trained for new full-time or contract roles. Employers on this programme will receive 90 per cent of salary support from the Government for up to a year.

The training opportunities to prepare students demonstrates the stage of career exploration as e it allows them to move beyond their schooling years to authentic job experiences with a focus on their future employment. These training programmes are important for a student’s future success. According to our assigned article, Fabian (2007), 68% of the youth in the Bridges program secured a job, a rate considerably higher than the national average. Results of the study also indicate that previous vocational experience was a significant factor predicting employment.

In 2022, Singapore has launched a new learning hub called Enabling Academy for PwDs. This academy offers over 110 training programmes to help PwDs acquire skills through their lifetime. In addition there are also programmes for employers on inclusive hiring and practices. More private sector partnerships was also forged for improved accessibility to training. Current partners include Google and Microsoft. 
 
As mentioned, Fabian (2007) found that previous vocational experience was a significant factor in predicting employment. Through these programmes where students are able to learn through work, they can apply and develop the necessary knowledge and skills they require to be successful in securing employment after graduation.

To extend this activity, have students choose three careers they are interested in. Then with those careers in mind, research and answer the questions presented in the video. Students would then pick one career choice and demonstrate new learning in the method of their choice (slides presentation, information board, essay, demonstration, etc.)
