Why: Provide a tool for teachers to begin finding natural connections between content area standards in order to provide students an authentic, engaging, and innovative learning experience.
Who would use this: Teachers would use this as collaborative planning and brainstorming tool. Over time, this could become an archive of sorts for integration ideas.

4. Exceeding Expectations:Empowers learners to create and facilitate workshops for others on effective communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts

The Why: Allowing students to engage in meaningful discussions about what they are learning leads to deeper learning. For students to be able to provide feedback to their peers about how they communicated their ideas would provide insight into how well students have internalized and generalized the skill of communication. Students in grades 3-5, or higher, may utilize this template to engage in workshop with their peers.

This model has 4 parts.

The 4 parts pertain to students being able to understand how to use their thinking skills by applying their knowledge to scenarios/real life situations.

The 4 parts are Understand, Plan, Solve, and Evaluate (UPSE).

1st step: Understand

 The purpose of the Understand is for the student/teacher to determine what is being asked within the situation. To do this the student would strategically create one sentence explaining what needs to be found or answered within the problem.

Example: I need to find... (4-5 words will follow the sentence stem to complete the thought.)

2nd step: Plan

The plan can be used for all content areas.

For math the plan will have 4 parts which are operation, method, number sentence, and process. An acronym that can be used for this is Old Monkeys Never Play.

In conjunction with the parts of the math plan students/teachers reading is implemented as well. There are 4 parts for reading as well. These parts work with the math part to show an understanding the processes of what was read by using the steps of what was done first, next, then, and last.

3rd step: Solve

After the plan is created the student/teacher would then show the complete process with the steps it took to solve the problem.

Essentially the plan/solve can work together as evidence to show how the work is done.

4th step: Evaluate

This is the final step in the process to where the student/teacher writes a declarative sentence stating why the solution/conclusion was answered in the manner it was using a sentence stem.

The sentence stem would normally be considered a because statement.

For Example: My answer is ____________ because......
