I was born here in Miami as well grew up here. My parents are from different places like my father is from Cuba and my mother is from Domincan republic. I graduated from Christapher Columbus High School as a student athlete in 2020 when the Covid virus started. During the day I go to school but at night i work at YouFit. I am currently on my way on getting my AA in Business Adminstration at MDC and when i do receve that i hope to tranfer to the University of Flordia to continue my path to my major which is Sports Management. My Home MDC campus is the Kendall Campus.

I have many goals in my life that I would like to reach, for example is to make my company grow and strive on the thing we will foucus on. As well other thing is to prove my self and others that told me I cant and wont do. I have many hobbies such as go to the gym, fishing, spending time with freinds but the most imporant one is to spend time with my family. Somewhere thatg iw ould love to live is North Caralina in Willmington. The reason is because it right to the beach and as well you have the whole state that is filled with diferent thing to do such as water rafting or hiking.

For the first video I picked “The Story of bottled Water”. In this video it explains how big companies are using water as a marketing strategy to get people to buy more water bottle. They went over how the big companies used ads to attack people from using tap water. Funny thing is that some people would rather use tap water then bottled water. It as well went over how many plastic water bottles are being used for example every week half of a billion water bottles is being used as well other statistic that they showed is that we can go around the world 5 times by the amount of water bottle that’s being used.

For my second video chose “The story of electronics”. This video talked about how big companies trying to find way to bring stuff out every 18 months to make a new product come out. During this video it talks about the different types of hurtful stuff they are putting in our electronics such as PVC as well mercury. Video as well talks about how the company IBM found out that some works were dying from blood, brain, and kidney cancer as well as they found out that 40% of woman that work there get miscarriages due to the toxic stuff in the air or on the products. At the end of the video, it talked about how we dispose the products such as tv or phone and companies are creating new things to take back the products to dispose of it correctly.

Reflection

Consumption has a huge role in our everyday lives because they has to do with the increase of new or old products hurting the environment to just to get money for the big companies so they can keep hurts the environment as well pocket the money for themselves. For example the rise of plastic bottles is an example it hurts our environment on the way they get delivered to the stores as well what really happens to them when they get thrown into the recycling bin. It as can affect the water life because maybe some animal may mistake it to be food as well other good example on that on water life is the about of soda nets around the turtles’ necks or traps them they die from that.

Both videos have inspired me on making a difference in the environment. For example, we should really attack big companies on why they have toxic stuff in their devices that harm the customer as well as the worker that putting all together. We should make laws about making it more green for example create a Green Moore Law to help with the toxic waste in the electronics. For the Water bottle I believe we should stop using plastic and rather use glass water bottle to help the environment with the plastic waste as well enforce the usage of plastic bottle in populated areas such as theme parks, for them they can tell there customers to bring their own water bottle or they can buy one from the gift shop.

The first time that i have heard of citations were in highschool when doing reserach paper for a class. Ever since highschool I have seen different types of citations that we can use when doing a report or any kind of paper. When in the class with Mis.Iduque showed us that when using miami dade libary it very resoure l when search up stuff to reaserch. The miami dade libary online is very easy to use and as well it is very helpful when trying to find cites for the things you searched up .

The topic that choose to write about is the traffic in miami. I found it intresting beacause i live in miami when the traffic is sometimes terrible. When doing my reaserch I found a couple thing what causes the traffic in miami. First it the problem of people on there phones always and not paying attention when driving so when the light turns green people would get mad because the person in front is on the phone. Other thing is that people are very inperince cause many accedent for example when a perosn dosent know how to drive they would be slow or if there lost slow down when the speed limt is higher then what there going.

The first article, Burning Sugar Cane Pollutes Communities of Color in
Florida, depicts the contrast between the sugar cane harvesting practices
in the state of Florida and those found in Brazil’s agriculture. The article
mentions that while Florida’s harvesting methods produce a majority of the
country’s cane sugar, it proves detrimental to lower-income communities of
color. Meanwhile, Brazil’s production of cane sugar is more than 20 times
that of Florida, and Brazilian agricultural experts argue that eliminating
burning as a harvest practice provides other beneficial uses for the by-
products of sugar production, such as renewable energy from the sugar
cane leaves. The article also explains the economic and financial
implications of altering harvesting practices, such as requiring the purchase
of new machinery and implementation of firefighting teams and worker
retraining.

Why you don’t hear about the ozone layer anymore

The second article, Why You Don’t Hear About the Ozone Layer Anymore,
highlights the recovery process of the ozone layer of the Earth’s
atmosphere. The video notes that the ozone layer was projected to be
completely eliminated by the year 2050, causing irreparable damage to the
ecosystems living on Earth, including the extinction of all life on the planet.
The video explains that the largest chemical contributor to the progressing
loss of ozone was chlorine found in molecules known as
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). The combined process of CFC being
degraded by UV rays, freed chlorine atoms binding with ozone’s oxygen
molecules, and the physical interaction of these chlorine monoxide
molecules continuing the process is what led to the growing loss of ozone
in the atmosphere. The removal of CFCs and other ozone-depleting
substances from the majority of industrial products and common machines
around the world, aided by the passing of environmental agreements like
the Montreal Protocol, assisted in lessening the damage to the ozone layer.
The video also mentions that hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) do not deplete the
ozone layer but contribute to climate change due to being a greenhouse
gas.

Reflection:

My thoughts on both articles are that there are many steps to preserve
what remains of our environment in addition to reversing potentially harmful
practices in agricultural production. However, these practices may be
required to continue while seeking out alternatives. In reading about both
subjects, I learned that the environment is a part of our lives that we cannot
ignore. The detrimental effects of ignoring our environment would cost us
more in the short term, as seen in the projections regarding the depletion of
the ozone layer. On the other hand, it may also not be beneficial to argue
for the short-term economic implications of ignoring the environment, such
as the requirement for new machinery and implementation of better-trained
teams in harvesting cane sugar in Florida or Brazil. Granted, these issues
transcend just our respective communities. When viewing these issues
under multiple lenses, it is important to view the consequences any actions
taken to resolve the issue, such as employment, and other costs or benefits
brought on by involved parties. Solutions also provided unique portrayals of
the subjects by using articles with not just references to studies and data,
but including videos with graphics, interviews, and more. By doing so,
viewers and readers can give more attention and better understand the
material being discussed.

The title for my first Ted talk was What if there were 1 trillion more trees? During this ted talk it went over a couple of interesting points of should we let the forest come out naturally or should we the humans be the one that help the wildlife by planting the trees there. It as talked about change for the example we should cut back on the fossil fuels to get the atmosphere back to a balance green house. At the end of the video it as well talked about how plant and trees are very important to us human as well to earth because trees and plants consume carbon to clean the air as well.

The title for my second Ted talk was The surprising solution to ocean plastic. Here it talked about a man name David Katz that developed a way house to make recycling a real job as well save the earth while doing it. Every year humans produce around 300 million tons of plastic every year which will end up in water way or the ocean. David Katz created something named the Plastic bank. The plastic Bank is a ultra-store for the poor that will sell anything just for the amount f plastic you have. For example, If you was to buy a cell phone with minutes you can and you would just need to pay in plastic. In the store they sell everything you could imagine such as high-efficiency stoves, sustainable cooking fuel, power, Wi-Fi, medical insurance as well as school tuition. With the plastic he consumes form the customers he would sell the plastic to the people or he would shred it. Right now, the plastic bank is located in Haiti and the Philips and soon to come to India and Ethiopia.

Reflection –

I have learned a lot on these short ted talks. But it’s the way we use the information to create change. When watching these videos, I have gained the knowledge of how important it is to take care of our planet. Our planet is very import because ewe need to take care of the place, we live in for example with the plastic in water I have learned that using a hands-on job like collecting plastic can bring you some type of payment that you can receive. When David Katz came up with the idea of his company, he showed that people that are poor can recase the same thing the middle class receives because they are using plastic a way of payment as well help the world out becoming even cleaner. Moving on I have learned many important things about the importance of the trees that are on earth. Having forest is very goof for our environment because it has trees as well plant to collect the carbon in the air. The only way that it would horrible is if we as human keep cutting down the forest as well, we would need to help the environment keep the trees alive and growing in rapid way.

During the beginning of my college career, I been lost on the things I can trust on the web or google to be more specific. When in high school I was always taught to just pick a random website on the topic we use to talk about, or we were learning about. So, I have developed the habit to just pick a random website that could maybe not be reliable on the information it was providing. During the session with the liberin Isabel Duque, she thought us on different ways on searching up as well on researching the information that we wanted on “Search the Library Catalog” which is a research tool that Miami Dade college provides to student to help us with the things we need to look up. During the session she as well went over citations such as MLA and APA. It was a great refresh myself on the way you do citations because I have some time forget to put it and as well to do my citation correctly. Overall, everything about Sp2 was great for me as well for my classmates to gain more knowledge about researching and to be reminded on the endless resources we have.

After having the session with liberin Isabel Duque I felt when doing my Sp3 that it was incredibly easy because on the things she showed us. While doing my Sp3 I felt comfortable on picking a reliable source when doing it. Sp3 felt close to home to me because I wrote about the traffic in Miami. For example, when doing my research this article that I found titled “Here’s How Traffic in Miami Compares Nationwide” talks about how mental health can be a problem because of the long lines you have to wait, I can attest to that because I suffer from anxiety, and it is not good to stay in one place for quite a bit as well you can have panic attacks. As well in the other articles that I picked all have the same thing in common is that it cost money and that has to do with maintaining the car in good reliable maintenance. When in traffic you would have to break many times because you are just moving a couple of feet so that would hurt you brakes and wear them down as well it is not well for you transition or people safety because there are a lot of crazy people that drive recklessly In Miami that may cause some car crashes due to road rage.

From the previous paragraph like I said about Sp2 I have learned a lot and have gain the confidence to trust the things I research as well write down for anything. I am very grateful that we had the session with the librarian Isabel Duque showing us the different types of citations for example on the different types of MLA citations and the APA citations too, as well as the different tools that Miami Dade college offers to help us student succeed and excel on the researching part of our education. Since I have been taught about the different types of research tools, I have been using the Miami Dade library online research tool for my other classes. It has changed who I am when researching stuff up for this class or for any other classes I have in the present or in the future I will always now be doing my research on the Miami Dade library online will always keep in mind to cite my papers when I do research.

Reflection

I learned that the process of pyrolysis is self-sufficient despite it requiring high amounts of energy. Chemical recycling is also an efficient process in that plants that provide pyrolysis as a method of recycling materials such as tires allow for a large amount of the raw material recycled to be reproduced, in addition to the plants using a large margin of the recycled material. Additionally, the end products of pyrolysis, such as carbon black and pyrolysis oil, allow us to manufacture other materials such as machine parts. Chemical recycling also innovates on the more traditional forms of recycling, such as mechanical recycling, that cannot sort or break down recycled materials in an energy-efficient or chemical-efficient manner. By innovating newer processes such as pyrolysis, we also can reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by up to 4 kg of carbon dioxide gas. By implementing more plants that use processes such as chemical recycling and pyrolysis, we can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere on a larger scale. By learning more about newly introduced recycling processes, I’m more inclined to recycle materials properly by sending them to the proper facilities instead of just disposing of them in trash cans. The community as a whole can participate in recycling programs as well in order to help our environment.
