The book houses a conglomerate of different sections, each portraying letterforms from “unlikely materials,” such as veins, snakes, condoms ect.

Looking at Steven Heller and Gail Anderson’s work it reinforced the idea of creating my letter face within varying medians to create A unique and more distilled outcome.
“If you cast your eye up to the sky or down to the ground, there’s an excellent likelihood you’ll discover something that either looks like a letter or actually is one,” This quote helped me immensely when thinking about what medians I wanted; as I read this, out of my window their was rays of sun bouncing off the buildings opposite me casting down these massive shadows to the floor below in an L shape. Shadow could be used as one of my medians.

Instead of using the water to influence the shape of the letter like my original plan (that I have tried out) I am going to use the ridged letter form I created and use the water to texture the inside of the letter form. Shining the light on the water to really draw out the texture and photographing through the stencil, instead of shining the light through the stencil onto the water.

I have two stencils of W, one rigid one and one flowing one, I am going to go ahead with the rigid one as the sharp lines contrasting with the unpredictable texture of the water. I believe this creates a very interesting dynamic.

After creating some letterforms that I am content with I want to find a median/ format that compliments them so I am left with a finished product.

Magazines are my favourite format and I believe that they co inside with graphics magnificently, so this is my first stepping stone to a finished design.

I started my research looking at IDs newer issues - The 'tyshawn jones' issue stood out to me straight away (as I skate) and the main thing I took away from the cover is the colour pallet. The purples, oranges and blues were extremely gripping but defiantly too colourful for what I want to do with my letterform. I did extremely appreciate the use of colour cawardinntion with tyshawns durag and the ID logo. This is something I would like to keep in mind.

This issue of VICE from ..... is encapsulating an era of culture and photography. Amazing cover, streamline and effective. Using a coherent colour wheel to highlight the vocal points. Very inspiring. I like the mystery the picture brings and the text compliments it well.

Though the letterform isn't defining as a fashion drop.
The letterform has a almost dripping silver effect so another alternate idea was for a jewellery brand, I believe this worked better though still doesn't fit perfectly.
I will carry on exploring other formats to present the letterform.

Vowel. The form of the modern letter Y is derived from the Greek letter upsilon. The Romans first borrowed a form of upsilon – directly from the Greek alphabet, or from the Etruscan alphabet.

The Romans made two letters out of upsilon – Y and V (see V; W). They only employed Y when writing words derived from Greek but using Roman characters. Thus it did not really enter the Roman alphabet until the 2nd century ad. In modern English ymay represent a consonant or a vowel sound.

"The letter Y is also symbolic of looking within. Inner contemplation. Meditation and inner wisdom. Now is an auspicious time for receiving wisdom from your inner source of Insight/knowledge."

The structure is amazing and the layering of buildings is an idea I had had as that is the perspective you view from ground level in a city. This piece you get an extremely well conducted feeling of being surrounded. The letter is also clearly legible.

I picked this letterform as the counter part of Lise Brains and also the counter part of my initial ideas (buildings and nature). Marian has produced a incising K, the brush of these leafs look almost sporadic in assortment, as if it was an accidental bouquet. This is clearly not the case as the closer you look you start to see this K come the fore front through inverted colouring, to highlight the curtail structuring points. I admire this and wish to create something of this realm in terms of using inverse to highlight.

I decided to draw the building from this off centred perspective to create a lot more depth and detail.

I really enjoy Lise Brians letterform. Though believe the front on 2D perspective is inferior to the 3D Modle esc effect you get with the off centring. So in my design this will be prevalent. The draw back of this view point is a lot more work as well as the loss of legibility which is something I'm quite concerned about. Thats why in am exploring ways of making the letter form more obvious, seen in sketches above.

This is a commentary on the future of architecture; the motion that has already been happening and will continue to increase, architects making colossal designs that facilitate overcrowding in a bid to match the ever rising population.
Council blocks were engineered to hold a lot of people with minimising the usage of space.
- My concept revolves around what happens when these blocks aren't enough and they have to be re-engineer them in order to house more residents.
This is something that effects me and a lot of my friends in London, due to the vast increase of property prices and the vast decrease of space.
