When we see people who are visually pleasing or a written piece that stirs something within us, we call them beautiful. When we hear music that brings us peace, or watch a film that makes us reflect on the very meaning of life, we call them beautiful. The simplest yet most pleasing things we delight in in our life are ascribed that same word. However, no matter the times we use the term “beautiful,” no person has been able to properly capture the meaning of the term “beauty” itself, and perfectly translate it into words. That is, until Thomas Aquinas had provided his own definition and Adler had unboxed it, though not without the observations of Immanuel Kant. With this, we can say that beauty is that which pleases us when we apprehend it with just our minds, or in tandem with all of our senses, as such (Adler, 1981). Adler goes on to define a clearer aspect of beauty – its subjectivity, as beauty may provide us with joy or delight upon its apprehension, and we may enjoy it as such. This is enjoyable beauty. It is as described, an object that we enjoy and consider beautiful regardless of other people's taste or personal inclinations. It is the aspect of beauty that coincides with the sphere of taste, and is something we cannot force onto others. Though, we may freely discuss it with others given that there is ground for discussion. We might not be able to notice it, but over the course of time, we are exercising enjoyable beauty in all the ways that we are appreciating art around us. From the simplest of things up to the complex ones, enjoyable beauty can be appreciated by all types of people. This subjective sense of beauty allows the recognition of the forms of art which we feel closely related to do. As such, an object that aligns with the definition of beauty and brings us the feeling of joy or delight is an enjoyable beauty.
