         <title>James Madison (1809-1817)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Macon's Bill Number 2  was intended to motivate Great Britain and France to stop seizing American ships and cargo, this ended up actually pushing America and Great Britain closer to war.<br><br>Event 1. Vetoed a bill to charter an Episcopal church in Virginia (February 11, 1811)<br>-James Madison was an extremely strong advocate towards separation of the church and the state. He called this bill unconstitutional and dangerous to give religious bodies legal authority.<br><br>Event 2. Signs act to Declare War on Algiers (March 3, 1815)<br>-James Madison authorized Stephen Decatur, to set sail for the Mediterranean and bring the ruler of Algiers to his "heels" with ten warships under his command. Once the Treaty of Ghent ended war with Britain, President James Madison requested that Congress declare war on Algiers, with Congress authorizing the use of force<br><br>Event 3. The veto of the bonus bill (March 3, 1817)<br>&nbsp;-This was a plan that called for federal construction of roads, bridges, and canals. Although James Madison agreed with the idea of infrastructure construction he vetoed the bonus bill due to " the constitution not containing any expressed power for the federal government to do such a thing".&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>James Monroe did not like the influence Europe had in the western hemisphere therefore causing the making of the Monroe doctrine. <br>Event 1. Adams-Onis Treaty (1819)<br>-A treaty that defined the western border of the United States with Spanish-owned territories. Spain gave Florida to the United States and agreed to a boundary line that extended from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean.&nbsp;<br><br>Event 2. Missouri Compromise (1820)<br>- This legislative agreement allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a slave state while Maine entered as a free state, maintaining a balance between slave and free states. It also established a line across the Louisiana Territory, with slavery prohibited above this line and allowed below it, except for Missouri.<br>Event 3. Monroe Doctrine (1823)<br>-A policy that declared that any European colonization or intervention in the Americas would be seen as a threat to the United States. It aimed to prevent further European influence in the Western Hemisphere and solidify the United States' control over the region.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Washington warned to the people of America to not create political parties because it would be Americas downfall, then we went ahead and made the federalist party and the democratic-republic party.<br><br>Event 1. Ratification of the Bill of Right (1791)<br>- Was the start of shaping individual liberties in America which was not too long ago still considered part of Britain. The ratification of the bill of rights also laid the foundation for democracy.<br>Event 2. Establishment of the First National Bank(1791)<br>-Known as the First Bank in U.S., it played a role in stabilizing the nation’s financial system. This establishment was brought up by Alexander Hamilton with a plan which would standardize American currency and help cope with the debt from the American revolution.<br>Event 3. Jay Treaty of 1795(1795)<br>-A negotiation to avert conflict with Great Britian and solve issues between the two nations. This included trade disputes and British occupation of western posts.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thomas Jefferson's decision to go through with the Louisiana purchase and double the size of the U.S.<br><br>Event 1. Louisiana Purchase (1803)<br>- This was a purchase that doubled the size of the United States, greatly strengthened the country materially and strategically. Jefferson adhered to a strict interpretation of the Constitution and believed that without a specific enumeration of his right as president to acquire the purchase, buying the Louisiana Territory could plausibly be unconstitutional.<br><br>Event 2. (1804 - 1806) Lewis and Clark Expedition<br>- President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the expedition shortly after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 . This was a U.S.&nbsp; military exposition by Capt. Meriwether Lewis and Lieut. William Clark, to explore the Louisiana Purchase and the Pacific Northwest.&nbsp;<br><br>Event 3. Non-Intercourse Act (1809)<br>- The Non-Intercourse Act was a law passed in 1809 by the United States Congress to ban all commerce between Americans and the European nations of France and Great Britain. This causes a long-term effect on the U.S economy.<br><br></div>]]></description>
