Traditionally developer for black and white film contains three main components;  (1) a developing agent, popular developing agents used are- Metol, Phenidone, Dimezone, Hydroquinone.
(2) A alkaline agent, such as Sodium carbonate, Borax, or Sodium Hydroxide- this will create the appropriate Ph level.

gather the equipment needed to remove film from canister:- opener, spool, central rod, tank
 place it on your table in a  rational, ordered , rule of first ( which components go first to last ) order 
in the dark, load the film on to the spool, place the central rod in, place the film into the tank, add the funnel, and finally the lid
Turn the lights back on AFTER checking that everyone else is complete in the darkroom or else the film will be damaged
Gatheing the nessecary chemical components 
measure your ingredients
produce solution A and solution B 
Mix solution A and B together slowly, ensuring to look out for foaming; don't allow the chemicals to foam over- this will through off the measurements and reduce the odds of a successful outcome
