A) stocking shelves, answering phones, selling pets, cleaning cages, providing food and water to pets, working cash registers, opening and closing store
B) 5 employees… 4 standard employees and then 1 assistant manager. The 4 standard employees are responsible for fulfilling the general requirements of the business such as selling merchandise and serving customers. Assistant manager is responsible for assigning tasks and keeping the team on schedule. Employees should be conflict avoidant with customers and with pets. Evaluate these skills through behavioral interviews to assess emotional stability. The workforce should be diverse but should be experienced with animals (ie has pets of their own or has previous experience working with animals).
C) Should be friendly, evenly distribute work, shouldn’t leave an immense amount of work at the end of their shift for others to complete. Should put customer needs first, treat pets well and put them first. The team should also avoid conflict with customers and each other, and should consult assistant managers or managers when conflicts occur
2) affiliative leadership style… should create harmony among team members so that there is open communication and strong relationships in the workplace. Pets are also being treated fairly by affiliation as there is a general positive attitude in the workplace, this style will also motivate employees when they may be stressed taking care of pets or answering customer concerns.

The first thing we should is to define our goals and motivations of opening a pet shop. To be successful we must manage all of the activities of the pet shop and run a profitable business. Since we are new, we want to focus on marketing to get our name out and become familiar within the industry. We have full authority since we are creating this pet shop from the ground up. We will be making all of the important decisions and have the creative freedom to construct this company as we think is best. The skills required to design this team include technical skills, task management skills, and business acumen skills. To evaluate these skills we will conduct self reports as well as 360 degree reports. The work will be evenly delegated and distributed to whoever has the most experience and specialization in that specific area. To understand the processes we plan on doing a competitor analysis to learn the industry. In addition, to understand the team and the necessary roles we will conduct a task analysis. The focus of work is both tactical and creative since we have a clear goal but also since we are creating the company we have the creative freedom. As a team we will have constant communication to foster the growth of this company. All members are required to come to work on time and leave on time. They are required to treat all employees and customers with respect. They are required to complete their tasks to the best of their ability. The style of leadership we will implement is Affiliative. We want our leaders to create harmony among employees. The tasks at hand are straight forward. This team would be a manager led team.

The most passive way would be a mix between democratic and authoritarian because it allows for hierarchy and input between employees. There should be structure in the company with some having more authority but they should not be too controlling.

1a.) Consult with customers about products that are best for their pets. We will offer grooming services, training services and provide necessities for owning a pet.
1b.) Animal groomer, animal trainer, manager, assistant manager, shelf stockers, cashiers. Interpersonal and task-management skills are needed for these positions. Strong customer service and communication skills are necessary as well.
1c.) Open channels of communication, customer satisfaction, high employee morale, task orientation, promptness, openness to new ideas and experience. If these norms are followed, the store should flow seamlessly and employee turnover should be minimal, while customer satisfaction should be high.

2.) We believe that the Coaching style would be the best for this situation. We would focus on hiring groomers, managers, and trainers who are all experienced in their field, and cashiers that are experienced in customer service. These employees should be motivated, innovative, and aspirational. None of the employees we will hire should lack experience, so therefore, coaching will be most effective.

1a.) The main work that needs to be performed at our business is pet grooming services as well as selling pet supplies. The group will have the goal of providing excellent grooming services, and providing high-quality pet supplies, that generate high customer satisfaction. The focus of the work will be tactical. We want to execute a well-defined plan about how the team will conduct sales, provide services, interact with customers, and market. We will need to gather external information about what our customer base will prefer in terms of grooming services, and also how much they will be willing to pay for the services. We could probably have different options for grooming services, which can range from the basic service (wash and dry) to the premium service which includes everything. We believe that at most 1 hour should be allocated per pet when providing grooming services. The basic grooming service should take less time, and the premium would be closer to the hour. The teams will be pretty interdependent as they will all rely on each other to perform their work well so that they aren’t backtracked with their services.

Sales floor

Stock

Clean

Ring people up

Hands on Training

Grooming

Good with animals

Professional-sih

Hands on training prior to hiring AND during the hiring process

1b.)

Team Composition

Personable skills to deal with the customers; interpersonal skills

Greeting customers

Employees who are more experienced with the technical side of operations

Being good with animals and knowing how to handle them properly

Delegating tasks based off of expertise. We want to delegate tasks based on how well each employee knows their roles. If one employee knows how to market and interact with customers better, we will place them in our sales floor. If they know how to groom well and interact well with animals, then we will place them with our grooming team.

Diversity

3 women, 2 men. As we learned in class, the more woman in the team the better. In terms of age, we will be accepting employees at any age starting from 16. Obviously older employees should have more experience than the younger ones, so they can possibly help out with training.

Manager

In charge of marketing

Getting the word out

Training new employees and conducting performance checks to ensure that they’re keeping up with standards.

Oversight of business operations. Making sure the operations of the company are going well, and mitigating any issues that arise with the team.

Cashier

Could be trained to do marketing. Cashier will have to know how to give customers recommendations about products that can be used for their pets. They will also have to know the inventory well so that they know where certain items are located in the store.

Operations

Cashier

Managing the floor

Cleaning throughout the day

Providing grooming services (washing the pets, cuting their fur, cutting their nails, drying them off, brushing their teeth)

1c.) Norms:

Timeliness. Everyone should try to arrive on time every day and be prepared with their uniforms.

Respect, integrity, friendly (not lying). Employees should demonstrate courteous behavior at all times with customers, answer any questions they have, and always have a smile on their face.

Commitment. We want committed individuals who will respect the business and put in the most optimal effort day in and day out for the pet shop.

Patience . Some animals are high maintenance and require to be dealt with more care in comparison to other animals. It is important that the Happy Friends Pet Shop staff will be able to adapt to these animals and treat them with extra care when dealing with them.

Team outings once a month. The team should meet at least once a month to go over their sales/operations process. In these meetings they can talk about what’s going well and what can use some improvement.

Community-centered events; outreach. Every now and then the team is expected to be marketing the company’s services outside of work. This can include giving out flyers or posting on their social media accounts about the services.

2. Leadership Style

Pacesetting

As a manager, you are setting the standard. You want your employees to notice the behaviors you showcase on the job and resemble their behaviors to match the ones you showcase. Discipline is also key in order for the manager to set the tone before all chaos breaks loose within the company.

Setting high performance standards and exemplifying it, making a positive impact on employees who are self-motivated and competent. We believe this is the best leadership style because everyone in the team will be competent with their grooming/sales skills, but they just need a leader who can exemplify the behavior and set standards that everyone can follow.
