1. There are a  lot of tools teachers can use to to assess understanding of materials and concepts. 
2. Technology can be used to keep students engaged in the learning process and allow many types of formative assessments to check for understanding of concepts.
3.  Formative assessments can be used to allow students to engage and talk with each other to share and learn information and understanding of materials.
