Time management workshop

what did you do, feel, think during the workshop?

During the workshop, I know what is time management by listening and discussing. Before the class I always felt that it is not a terrible thing if I knew nothing about manage time, even though every time I saw the negative example from mine, which would be wasted so much time and feel tangled. At the beginning, I felt learning how to manage time is one kind of waste of time, because setting a time period or target date for each goal, which is ridiculous for me and I cannot deal with things in a flexible way and basically making a schedule does not work for me at all, but by listening and testing, after that I knew most human characteristics can be distilled to five wide dimensions of personality: extraversion, friendliness, carefulness, emotional stability and intellectual autonomy. Further more, through the teacher's explanation and introduction, I understood why we should learn to manage the time and the importance of it. In addition, I knew how to manage time by discussing with classmates. Finally, I felt that time management is very important and different people have different ways to manage time, otherwise, my schedule will be not reasonable enough.

What insights did you gain about yourself from the workshop?

From the workshop, I knew that I know more about myself in terms of personality, my strengths and weaknesses and my abilities. From the workshop, I know my character is introversion, so normally I am closed, reserved even individualistic. So when I get problems I will not ask others for help. As a introverted person, my independent thinking ability is relatively strong as I like to be alone, so basically I can do a lots of things independently. And I am a people with considerable insight. Further more I am a careless people, which means I do not have any motivation at all and my behaviour is lax, so I am not careful or strict about maintaining high standards. I am also a sensitive people, I feel nervous when somethings happen unexpectedly. However anxious people likes me tend to take more precautions, such as if I have a test tomorrow or a interview tomorrow, I will be anxious all day , so at night I will work hard, check again and again. So I will make a fewer mistakes than the people who have stable emotion, but it do waste time as doing a lot of things which is not necessary.

What will you do differently in the coming period?

From the workshop I know I must establish the personal values, if values is not clear, then it's very difficult for me to know what's the most important, when my value is not clear, time management must be bad. The point of time management is not only set a schedule, but also how to allocate time based on different personality. And I never have time to do everything, but I have time to do what's most important to me. So when I am not sure what should I do in the next, or I fail to do all things in time, I will ask for advice or ask for help instead of doing alone. Secondly, planning means thinking carefully, especially if I want to consider whether the plan is enforceable. I need to be careful about myself and see what I am going to do. And I don't need to deny the current state of life completely, but should be improve step by step. What I have to do is not too early to say, "I can't do it.", but try to do, because I'm a negative person, so this process may be painful and very hard for me. Finally, focus on something a little more and try to relax. For me, it is very hard to focus on one thing at a time, I will immediately do some other things when something happens even though it is not very important. In a very long period of time, I felt my life was destroyed and feel anxiety, so working time is very important. So giving up all excuses and try to do anythings without delay. If a task assigned, I should also set a time limit. It's really very practical, I will become more efficiency.

Motivation

what did you do, feel, think during the workshop?

At the beginning, I thought I was a people without any great ambitions and motivation. During the workshop, I knew that what do I want, what suits me and what is my motives. More specifically, by listening, I knew what is motivation, and why the motivation is important. Further more, by testing I knew something about the work value, such as why I like and are motivated by particular work, also career anchors, for instance, whether I am interested in individual freedom or prefer to have power and status. What sort of company suits me best? This is one of the most important questions for the career.

What insights did you gain about yourself from the workshop?

From the workshop, I knew that not only do I know motivation, attitude, preferences and values, but also what sort of company suits me best. More specifically, after having the workshop, I knew I do care about the freedom and independence. Which means in the work I hope everything can be as flexible as possible, and I do not want there are too many constraints in my work, I can take full control of the time and action by my own, I do not want to work with too many people, I prefer doing everything alone. When I attained my own destiny, for example, doing a thing independently. Then there is fulfillment, which motivates me, and I can be more focus on my own things. In addition, I did not systematically looking at what drives me before, and I wish the work is relatively stable if possible, than I do not have to worry about the dismissal at all, and often waste time for looking for a new job. So as a result, I do not know what I really want. But now I know what I have done is try to avoiding contacting with people and prefer to live in a comfortable environment, and I do not want to engage in any challenging work. So what I am interested is neither power or status, it is in individual freedom actually. Finally, I understand that what sort of company suits me best, I am a quiet person who has no ambition, which is suitable for some relatively stable occupation such as engineers, teachers, accounting, cashier, which has not too many changing and challenging. This kind of person likes me are really calm. I always work carefully and I can detect tiny details which is not observed by others. Maybe it seems I am cold and silence, so the disadvantage is not love social, and always miss the chance. For me, I like the works that have repeat, or can deal with things without communication.

What will you do differently in the coming period?

In the coming period, firstly I want to become more positive, If the attitude is always negative, then I will not have a sense of achievement, especially when I cannot finish it on time, then I am more likely to be disappointed. The colleagues and leaders will not appreciate when I am passive With a passive attitude in work, is very difficult to get the sense of achievement. Work need passion, requires proactive and innovative spirit. Only in this way, we can get work given the more rewarding. Secondly, finding something I am really interested in. For example, the purpose for study or work is not for the diploma, high scores, further studies, promotion, reward, but desire for knowledge, curiosity, interest, hobby and so on. If I do not to try, how do I know whether I like it or not? So in the next I need to try a different career, in order to know do I love it or not, do not deny until I try and get benefit from it. Last but not least, finding somethings which suit me best. In looking for a job and studying process, there are a lot of things is also very worthy. Find the shortcomings and correct them. Develop the strengths and redouble the efforts. Everyone is a talent, believe in myself, be positive, and to be more patient than before as finding something suits me is very hard. Don't feel that I am useless,I can not find a good job sooner or later, so be patient.

Reflection exercise for SCC portfolio – Exams

1. In your previous education, what were the exams like? (mainly open questions, mc-questions, cases, open-book exams, etc.). How much time did you get for the exams? How did the grading system work? How long did it take to get the grade? Could you review your answers and the teacher’s corrections?

From primary school to junior high to high school, University, or even higher level education, our school life are filled with the exam, now exam has almost become a evaluation of our sole criterion, and to distinguish between good students and bad students only standard is the score on the test. So for Chinese test scores equal to the learning achievement. We have different examination categories, so we different kind of questions such as open questions, mc-questions, cases, open-book exams, etc. As for how much time did we get for the exams, how did the grading system work, and how long did it take to get the grade, it is depends which kind of exam we take, as different exam has different standard. For example, in primary school, our full mark is 100 points, and if we get 60 points, which means we pass it. But in middle school, our full mark would be 120, we would fail it unless we get 72, and normally, we don't need to do the resit, even we fail. Because in China we don't have point system before going to high school. Basically we can review our answers and the teachers' corrections as long as we ask for help.

2. According to you, what would be the ideal way to prepare for a written exam? To what extent are you following/did you followed to this ideal in the exam preparations?

In China test scores while in a certain extent can reflect the situation of students learning, but not completely, exam grade, some students are always good are because they know the structure of the examination, but in fact they did not working so hard. Opposite, some students test grade are not good, but students and teachers are obviously can see, they really learn all things good. So, examination results are not necessarily very accurate reflect the students' learning. So when I was in China I just only study for the test, and just prepare the things would appear on the exam. But now, firstly before the exam I will review carefully, which is very important, and I must understand the meaning about the content. Secondly, planning review time, and then according to the number of exams, make the review schedule. Finally, Attitude must be relax before the exam, and do not be too nervous and depressed, since the more nervous the more you do not read into the book, then it will not be concentrated at all.

3. Do you tend to get nervous or even anxious about taking exams? What could you do to deal with this?

As a candidate, I always feel not confident, although I worked hard, still lack of confidence in the examination. In terms of how to deal with this, I have some ways. At first, tDon't think too much. Secondly, self suggestion, can let me do not nervous, for example,I can do some deep breathing, let your mind calm down, and learn to repose with eyes closed. Appropriate exercise, so that the body is not only healthy, but also to make my own physical and mental comfort.

4. Have you read the Chapter 14 in the Study Skills handbook about revision and exams? Write down at least one piece of advice that you think is worth trying, and which you haven’t tried before (e.g. revising by ear, how to prevent going blank, etc.)

One piece of advice that I think is worth trying, and which I haven't tried before is prevent going blank. When my mind would go blank, I will try figure out why you get so nervous, and then regulate my breathing, after that take my time.

5. In class, you exchanged exam prep information with your classmates. Write down at least one valuable tip that you got from a classmate.

First of all, Now I wish to test well, of course, must be well prepared, from basic knowledge to the basic principles must be made clear to understand, and then do a certain amount of exercise, the more fully prepared, the more conducive to the examination of the play. Secondly, about examination skills, master the skills test maybe can improve the performance, and some questions have standard answer steps are needs a lot of attention examination skills.
