I think that he saw colour on the apple for the first time. And I think that since he saw this he will become the "Receiver" or "Giver" who see's the truth. And the truth consists the truth of colours, animals and the "outside world".
-Jonas also has "pale" eyes which I think is blue, which is different than the rest of the peoples blue eyes.
-Jonas is special and is starting to see the "dystopian" world or just the  world with the truth. The world where not everything is hidden.
-I think that they are given pills or something to make them not see the truth behind their fantasy world.
-Jonas see's passed the "walls" that the government created.
Important Events
-Jonas see's colour for the first time with the apple.
-Mirror's are rare in the community.
-Gabriel is staying in Jonas's house.

- Why are the hiding colour from the people? What else are they hiding from the citizens and why? Are they hiding something?
Answers
The society is hiding all of the memories because its "safer" for the citizens not to be able to choose.
Symbolism
-I think that the apple symbolises a lot and the author didn't just put it there for no reason. I think that it symbolises Adam and Eve and how so many people believe in that theory. I would think that they would be sad because they are leaving but they are brainwashed into thinking that they have lived a life well lived.
-The Release ceremony of the elderly almost seemed like a funeral for the people, even though they are still alive they are given a funeral which I think is pretty weird.
Prediction
- I think that when the elderly are released they are killed because they no longer have a purpose and help the society. I think that they kill all the people who get released because theres no point in having them in the society and the outside world could be radioactive, maybe a nuclear attack that destroyed the world.
Important Events
-The elderly are released after there time/service is done.
-Jonas is spending his community time bathing the elderly.
Questions
Do the elders know that they are having something similar to a funeral? Do they know where they are going?
Answers
The elders don't even know what a funeral is and they think that they are going to "elsewhere" which is actually them getting killed.

I think that this really shows that the kids are really controlled and taught young to follow the rules and if they break them then there will be major consequences.
 Important Events
-Jonas's father broke a small rule of not looking at the name book.
-Each year there are exactly 50 babies.
-Only two kids (girl and boy) per family uni.t
-At the ceremonies as the kids reach a certain age they receive responsibilities, different haircuts, or objects. For example, when the kids turn nine they get a bicycle.
-It takes a long time for laws to pass through and is rarely passed through in one's lifetime.
-The "Receiver" is the highest point of government.
-Elders choose the children's roles (jobs) and watch them very closely.
-Jonas's parents talked to him about the ceremony of twelve and that he should not be nervous.
-They don't know what animals are.
Personal Connection
-I felt the same way that Jonas felt about the ceremony of twelve when I was coming to Sacred. I would use the same word that Jonas used "apprehensive", I felt scared about my teachers, people and classes as he felt about his assignment.

Answers
The Giver or Receiver of memory is chosen when a child shows all the qualities that the Giver needs to possess. Their also needs to be no dreams of uncertainty from the current Giver. Plus Jonas was already starting to see the truth when he saw colour on the apple while passing it back and forward

And the pill that they takes away all of their feelings and emotions. This happened to Jonas when he had a dream about Fiona.
-The citizens always share their feelings which I think the government's way of really controlling everybody because they know how everybody is handling there emotions because their can't be any people who are different in this society. They also can't have anybody acting out.

-Jonas and his family go through the daily morning ritual of telling their dreams and Jonas exclaims that he had a dream where he was trying to convince Fiona to take her clothes off.
-Jonas starts taking the pills to get rid of the "stirrings" that Jonas first experienced.

-Why does the community want get rid of "love" or the "stirrings"?
Why do they share their dreams with their family unit?
Answers
They want to get rid of it because it causes too much of an emotional bond with someone and they don't want that. They share their dreams so if they have stirrings then they can give them their pills.

-When the chief elder says "thank you for your childhood" its almost like their childhood is not for themselves and their own enjoyment but just serving someone else. Its also weird that they graduate or become adults at only the young age of twelve.
-Its crazy how the twelves don't get to pick their profession so they don't have motivation or work towards anything that they really want to do. How do they know what they really want to do at such as young age? They get so much responsibility at such a young age.
-At the ceremony when the people find out that Jonas is to become the receiver of memory they gasp because they are all atonished because their life is so strict and almost second nature or routine to them now. And it seems to me that they don't have any change in their very boring meaningless life's.

The government even made Jonas's family to not get emotionally attached to Gabriel because he will leave after a year. They make sure that everyone is not truly unique and it shows that everybody is replaceable.
-The Ceremony of Loss ensures that emotions are dealt with and then stifled just like they do with the stirrings when they take the pill.
-When a different new child is assigned to a family and named Roberto, Jonas realizes that names are given out to replace the names of those who were recently released. This idea makes Jonas uncomfortable, which is already showing that Jonas is having second thoughts about how his society is run.

Utopia and Dystopia
The society that Jonas lives in is seen as a Utopian world since there is no emotion there is no suffering but we are slowly starting to see the real dystopian world and the Utopian world is being pulled away. We are seeing how the society is so controlled and is hiding the truth from them.

They are  chosen on the little personality they are allowed to have.
-It says in this chapter that the Giver has the same eyes as Jonas, this maybe shows that they are genetically linked somehow. Gabriel also has the unique blue eyes (pale eyes) so that implies that he might be unique too.
-In the very same society Jonas has been singled out as special and the chief elder addressed gaining the wisdom or memories with pain or sadness which is indicating that the rest of the community has no wisdom and just blindly follows the rules.

Prediction
-I already know what the receiver is since I've read the book before, he is knows all of the memories before  the society was formed. This includes colour, animals, weather and more.

I think that Jonas was born with the capacity to see beyond. Yes the some jobs lie about killing the old and the young when they are too old or are a twin.

This can show that in the society there is no books because sitting alone with a book would make them draw too deeply in themselves and they wouldn't participate in the activities in the society or help the society in any way.
