“I neglected you Ken, and I’m sorry” mum said.

“What do you mean, mum?”

“I mean, I didn’t realize how much I loved you until you were gone…”. She said whilst wiping tears from her eyes.

“It’s okay, mum.  I’m here now and that’s all that matters.”

“I presume that’s true.  I love you kennith” 

That was crazy cheesy but I don’t know how British people, let alone Mother’s, speak.

“I heard what happened ma’am, I’m truly sorry for your loss.”

“Get lost Ken.”

“Why?” I question

“You should’ve taken Terry with you.  You should’ve saved him.”

“I would’ve if I knew, and it was truly coincidenta-“. I paused 

“I’m sorry ma’am, Terry was a good kid, and a good friend to me.  I’ll make it a priority to pray for both you, and your family.”

“Thank you, boy.  Now get lost, it’s late, and I’ll bet your mother is preparing you supper by now.”

This is cheesy but so are British people.

Dear Diary,                            

The SS City of Benares has officially set off. It’s grand here. The coat that Mum bought me keeps me warm when I’m out on the deck. I hope it will be warm enough for Canada, if we make it there. 

 We get 9 course meals, far better than the rations back home in London. Sometimes I wonder why they give us such high quality meals. Is it because they know we’re in danger? We’ve been on this ship for 4 days now and it was only today that the crew said that we could take off our life jackets because we’re far enough from the Nazis. We had to keep them on in case we got bombed. It was such a relief to finally put on our pajamas.

Oh boy! It’s time for dinner! I’m off to stuff myself silly with ice cream!

Dear Diary,                            

It’s day three on board of the S.S City of Benares. We’re getting sick. Chicken Pox. It started with Alan, one bump, two, twelve, twenty. Then Pete. Father O’Sullivan says to go to the infirmary. He has the flu. The doctors say everything will be fine when we get to Canada.  How do they know? 

I miss Margaret.  I miss the days she made me laugh. Sometimes I wonder, will I ever see her again? But I must not give up hope. I must not give up hope.

It’s been a crazy summer and Fall. First I found out that I was going to have to leave England alone because the Germans were bombing England. Then it wasn’t safe at my house so I had to go to a shelter down the street.

At 11:00 am the next day my train arrived and then I got on it very scared. On the train I said goodbye to my Mum.

Suddenly I saw my friend Terry. So I said you’re also going to Canada. 

A while later for some reason we stopped and they were saying run, run. Apparently the Germans were bombing us. 

After some time at the shelter they were checking us to see if we were sick. If we were then we would have to go home. One kid was glad that he was sick because he wanted to go home.

A while later we arrived at the ship we were amazed. When we were having lunch it was crazy there was so much food. After lunch they told that we would have to wear a life vest the whole time. 

About a few hours later sirens started going off and you could smell smoke People were saying this is not a drill. I rushed to the lifeboats. But then I remembered that my mum’s fur coat was still in my room. So I rushed to my room but then water started coming up after I got the coat. 

When I got back to the lifeboats my lifeboat was gone. So they placed me on lifeboat 12. 

When we were in the water we found out that we only had Eight days worth of water.

About a week later we go rescued by HMS Anthony.

A few days later my parents picked me up. Soon we were back in London. And even three years later everyone stayed in touch.

                     FIGHTER PLANES

 Fighter planes were used by Luftwaffle a German airforce in world war two to drop bombs and fight in war. The Blitzkrieg was a german bombing campaign became against Britain between 1940  and 1941 during the second world war. They succeeded from 1939-1941 and then Luftwaffe fighter planes  that dropped over three hundred tons of  bombs over London during that time. Fighter planes in the story Lifeboat 12 were stated when the nazis were throwing bombs over Kens hometown and other parts of london.

        LIFEBOATS

In lifeboat 12, lifeboat 12 was a very important part of the story because  lifeboat 12 is how Ken and others were rescued. On tuesday september 17th the benares ship was torpedoed by the Germans and every one  on the ship rushed to an assigned lifeboat. Ken was assigned to lifeboat 9 but missed the boat because he went back to get his overcoat. Then lifeboat 12 came along and rescued Ken. Lifeboat 12 was the only lifeboat full of 45 people who were rescued, alive, safe who made it back to London. Unfortunately on lifeboat 12 there was a scarce amount of water and very little food but everyone on lifeboat 12 were still alive but we're almost about to die. On lifeboat 12 they only had 8 days of water left and each day every one would sip one water drop for there to be enough water for everyone. You couldn't even drink the sea water cause then it would kill you. Finally on day  zero of water left  ships of sailors rescue lifeboat 12 and  sail lifeboat 12 survivors back to London. If it weren't for lifeboat 12, Then those  45 people wouldn't of been saved and alive.
