During the 14th century, Singapore was caught in the struggle between Siam (now Thailand) and the Java-based Majapahit Empire for control over the Malay Peninsula. According to Sejarah Melayu, Singapore was defeated in one Majapahit attack. He ruled the island for several years, before being forced to Melaka where he founded the Sultanate of Malacca. Singapore became an important trading port of the Malacca Sultanate and later the Sultanate of Johor. In the early 15th century, Singapore was a Thai vassal state, but the Malacca Sultanate which Iskandar had founded quickly extended its authority over the island.
Evidence : This tells me that Singapore was attacked by the Majapahit Empire and was defeated in one attack.

1. Source 1: Please follow the format of giving inference and evidence.
2. Your inference should be your personal observation/ opinion of what happened and cannot be copied off the source.
3. Please relate back to the central theme of life in Singapore before 1819. (Similar for sources 3-5, do not simply copy and paste)
4. Source 2: The source you use should be before 1819.
5. To help you, you can refer to the Malay Annals or accounts of the Chinese trade Wang Dayuan for government in Singapore before 1819. Some questions relating to your aspect of government will be: Who ruled Singapore before 1819? Was Singapore invaded by any countries before 1819?

All the best Yong Hong!
Mr Jeremy Wong

Before the British colonized Singapore in 1819, Singapore was ruled by local Malay Rulers. Source 2 tells me that Singapore was attacked by the Majapahit Empire and was defeated after getting caught in the struggle between Siam and Java-based Majapahit Empire for control over the Malay Peninsula. Source 4 Supports the point as it shows where the first houses were built and where the religious authorities were living in.
Source 5 tells me that Malay Rulers used Fort Canning Hill to create terraces on which the King's dwellings and stood overlooking the places below. Thus, it can be observed that the history of Singapore did not start from 1819, as Malay rulers ruled the island before the coming of the British
