This is connected to Esperanza because the farm was the family's farm and the Tío brothers set fire to the ranch, (now if it had been a wild fire it wouldn't have been so bad [at least the emotional damage to the already emotionally damaged family. it would have been more psychically damaged if it had been a wild fire.]) and the ranch was theirs so setting fire to something that is not yours is not illegal (in some places [most places it is illegal]) but it is not great especially to almost a whole ranch, and in the words of article 17:

'1. Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.

2. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.'
