This one-stop-shop gives you the opportunity to directly chat online with our colleagues, register for upcoming events we are running or attending, and complete learning modules to build your confidence in employability, as well as learn more about British Airways.

In 2017-18, 15,140 young people took part in our programmes in the South East region from 233 education centres, with the support of 414 business volunteers.

We have the ambition to reach even more young people in the South East but we can’t do it alone. We need more teachers, educators, volunteers and businesses to get involved. Headway Programme: for Year 11 and 13s

September - November 2026

We understand that some young women feel uncertain about the potential transition from education into STEAM (science, technology, engineering, engineering arts and maths) industry training and employment.

Our annual Headway Programme gives young women entering academic years 11 and 13 in September 2026 the opportunity to:

• learn about BAE Systems

• meet and shadow our female staff

• explore engineering and business services apprenticeship programmes, starting September 2027

Taking place over six sessions from September to November 2026, students will be matched with a BAE Systems mentor and visit Portsmouth Naval Base. There will be opportunities to meet current BAE Systems apprentices, who will provide insights into their role and share their experience.

We’ll offer some guidance on how to apply for our apprenticeship programmes, open for application from January to February 2027, starting in September 2027.

Employability and Apprenticeship Workshops for Year 10

Dear Teacher / Careers Lead,

We’re reaching out to local target schools for apprentice recruitment to offer an exciting, fully funded opportunity for your Year 10 students, on a first come first served basis.

We’ve teamed up with unloc.org.uk to offer local schools high-impact 60 or 90-minute interactive workshops, designed to give Year 10 students an insight into future early career pathways at BAE Systems and how to apply for apprenticeships (Gatsby Benchmarks 5, 7 and 8).

Led by an expert Unloc facilitator and supported by BAE Systems STEM Ambassadors at your school, the workshops are designed for a group of approximately 30 x Year 10 students.

Workshop Objectives

The session uses real-world contexts to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to explore a future in secure and defence. By the end of the workshop, your students will:

• Apply Professional Behaviours: Learn about the positive behaviours BAE Systems look for in apprenticeship applicants, through a hands-on practical team challenge focusing on communication, positivity, time management, and problem-solving.

• Master the Recruitment Cycle: Gain an insider’s look into the BAE Systems apprenticeship application journey and learn how to approach competency-based interviews.

• Understand Entry Criteria: Decode the specific entry requirements and pathways for Level 3 through to Level 6 apprenticeships at BAE Systems.

Session Details

• Target Audience: Approximately 30 x Year 10 students (ideal for those interested in STEM careers or apprenticeships).

• Duration: Flexible 60-minute or 90-minute delivery to fit your timetable.

• Cost: Fully funded (free to your school).

• Staffing: Fully facilitated by Unloc, with real-world insights from BAE Systems staff.

• Resources: We just need HDMI connection to a presentation screen and teacher/learning assistant presence for safeguarding reasons.  Use of a classroom or school hall would be suitable for the workshop.

Would your students like to help shape the future of energy?

SSEN Distribution is offering a free, interactive workshop for schools that gives young people a real chance to share their views about how energy should work in the future.

We want to hear directly from students so their ideas can help guide how electricity networks are improved and developed over the coming years. What they say will genuinely be listened to and used.

The workshop is designed for Years 9–10 and lasts around 50–60 minutes. Students will take part in interactive discussions and activities about:

• How we move towards net zero (reducing carbon emissions to protect the environment)

• How to make sure changes to the energy system are fair for everyone

• How digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) might be used in energy in the future

• The wide range of jobs and careers available in the energy sector

Before the main session, we also provide a short 20–30-minute classroom activity to introduce the key ideas and make sure everyone feels confident taking part.

We are looking to deliver workshops before the summer holidays (by mid‑July).

What students will do:

• Talk about what a fair and sustainable energy future should look like

• Explore the positives and challenges of using AI and new technology

• Discuss how the future energy system can work well for different people and communities

• Learn about the many career paths at SSEN Distribution

• Work together to create a “Future Energy Network” charter that sets out what they want and expect

Go Humans Academy | STEM & PSHE Lesson Plans | STEM Crew

My team and I are working with partners across the city, including local media, travel and hospitality businesses, and others to create a unique five-day educational experience. Our goal is to provide local young people with an immersive and varied introduction to the world of public policy, politics and communication.

Running from 27th–31st July and free to attend, the summer school will offer students a blend of interactive workshops, expert-led panels, and hands-on experience. The week is structured to develop practical, transferable skills—including critical thinking, public speaking, and media literacy—that will benefit them regardless of their future career path. 

The provisional schedule as things stand is:

• Monday 27th – Wednesday 29th July: Southampton-based workshops covering policy development, advocacy, media, and crisis management. 

• Thursday 30th July (08:30 – 19:00): A trip to Parliament for a guided tour, education session, and insights into the legislative process. 

• Friday 31st July: Final project day, where participants will use the skills and knowledge gained during the week to design a youth-focused campaign.

We are looking for enthusiastic young people interested in a career in healthcare to take part in LIVE Health Sciences Virtual Work Experience!

The University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton are working together on a virtual work experience programme for Year 12 and 13 students. The programme will be delivered online between 9am and 3pm on 6th and 7th July 2026. 

The timetable will include the following: 

• Experience University ‘taster’ sessions across a variety of Health Sciences disciplines. 

• Opportunities to speak with current students and practising clinicians in the field of Health Sciences. 

• Observe clinicians in practice that includes nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and/or Audiology. 

Please note, as this is a live experience, the timetable may change at short notice. 

We expect students to treat this professional experience the same as an in person one. You need to be available for all dates and times to participate.

Please do not apply if you are not available for the duration of the experience.

You will need access to Microsoft Teams, with a working microphone and ideally a camera.

You must be based in the UK.

Unfortunately this opportunity is not available to students outside of the UK.

If you are under 18, you must have a guardian present in the home for the duration of the programme.

This programme is open to all students, however there are places set aside for students who meet 1 widening participation criteria. The criteria are:

1. First generation applicant to Higher Education

2. Parents, guardian or self in receipt of a means tested benefit

3. Young people looked after by a Local Authority or you have been in care or looked after for three months or more

4. In receipt of 16-19 bursary or similar grant

5. Resident in an area with a postcode which falls within the lowest 20% of the IMD (Index of Multiple Deprivation), or a member of a travelling family

6. In receipt of free school meals at any time during years 10-13 (normally for a minimum period of at least one school term/2 months)

7. Participation in a recognised outreach or widening participation programme.

Our Insight Day will be a one-day programme held in our London office on Monday 26^th October 2026 and will cover:
