This specific behavior pinpoints the SUD (substance abuse disorder) that Ryan himself is going through, this addiction affected him mentally, physically, and verbally. Ryan consistently on a day to day basis goes through 3 pints of alcohol a day and that's what his motivation is on a daily basis, is to consume as much alcohol as he can, even if it pains him. Alcohol is such a deadly toxin that Ryan consumes more than his body can actually handle, but that's where the word addiction comes in.

addiction is a gnarly disease, and this documentary used Ryan's journey to shed light on it.

Ryan suffered from a broken hip due to him riding a bike to the liquor store to purchase alcohol late at night, where he was visually not able to see his whereabouts. the handle bar was lodged into his hip causing it to break, Ryan never seeked medical help for it to heal properly, he was determined on still making it to the store to purchase alcohol, so that's what he did, except he walked there. This behavior shows how the power of addiction can alter Ryan's brain so much, and effect his judgment and it caused him to not even care that he was hurt, he just found that as a roadblock of not getting his alcohol, but he found a way to get it by any means necessary.

The detoxification process is extremely hard for someone like Ryan due to his liver and pancreas being full of toxins that the body couldn't handle, especially the large quantities that he was consuming on a regular basis. Ryan's body wasn't even able to heal wounds correctly, nor was he able to think coherently as the human body is supposed to. When Ryan decided to go to rehab , unfortunately 17 days in he died from the withdrawal, his body just couldn't handle the withdrawal process of the alcohol. This behavior of withdrawal caused Ryan to react in an aggressive way, causing him to have tantrums or chaotic outbreaks due to the lack of alcohol that he didn't consume.

As seen in the documentary Ryan wasn't the average social drinker, he was a man in his mid 20's struggling with the addiction of alcohol , it's what his life consumed of. He consumed 3 pints of vodka a day and he never missed a day of that amount, unless his grandfather portioned his intake. Due to this, his behavior became violent and aggressive towards everyone, including himself. His alcoholism stemmed from his childhood, unfortunately his father dealt with the same thing, growing up his father was abusive towards him and his mother. Ryan witnessed domestic abuse and had his own experiences with it due to his father. Ryan's father died when he was 24 which jump started his addiction to alcohol, his death impacted ryan's life completely after that.
