Getting to Know You: Instructor Profile Survey by Kasey Fulton

Complete the following survey using Padlet. The questions are centred around your experience teaching online. Return to this survey often to see your response as well as those of your peers. Padlet is an excellent tool (one of many) to help online learners share resources, make connection to content, and collaborate. Padlet is also an excellent tool for formative assessments in an online learning environment.
Add as many posts as you need by clicking on the red + sign in the bottom right-hand corner. Please share a little bit about yourself:
1. Name 2. In what school do you teach? 3. What online tools have you used for formative learning activities? 4. What do you find challenging about online formative and summative course assessments?

I'm a new instructor in the Dept. of English and am currently teaching online. I have used both Blackboard and D2L to build online courses, and they each have about the same "assignment functions." (Padlet, however, is new to me!) What I find most challenging about formative and summative assignments is making sure my assignment prompts are clear enough that my students don't need to email me for further detail. In addition to a detailed assignment prompt, I often produce a sister video where I go over the assignment, identify common pitfalls, and offer up tips to complete it successfully. I hope the videos help mimic what I would do in a F2F course, but not every student listens to my videos (even when they are required material) so a much larger portion of my students will miss an aspect of the assignment prompt online than in F2F. I'm not yet sure how to resolve this issue.

I teach History in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. I have never taught fully online courses, but I do use a variety of Blackboard tools in a blended learning environment. I have used very few formative exercises online before, and thus am wishing to find out more about them and how they can be used to enrich blended courses.

I teach Nursing in the School of Health Sciences. I generally teach F2F but have incorporated complementary online learning activities into my courses to support students' learning. I use an online tool to conduct formative and summative assessments in my courses, but still meet F2F with students re these assessments. I, as well, have never used padlet.

I'm the new librarian focused on the School of Health Sciences. This is my first year being involved with instruction and course design. There has been a lot of learning and I want to understand the components of Blackboard better. I've had previous experience as a student with BlackBoard and Moodle. I think online teaching has a lot of potential.

I teach nursing in the School of Health Sciences. Online tools that I have used include using discussion boards and Padlet for formative assessments. I have also taught nursing research using 3 d game lab for formative and summative assessments. The big challenge I have is engaging students meaningfully.

Hello I am a Licensed Practical Nurse of 25 years. I started Instructing the HCA program in Continuing Education almost 2 years ago when we began the online pilot project. I started with 16 students and I am now passing 100. The online class was designed and I navigate it and add to it when I learn new material. I want to learn all I can for my students. I am always learning. I love it! This is my first time using Padlet.

I teach in the Locksmith Program in the School of Trades and Technologies, both the online and F2F. Formative assessments at this time for the online course are limited to practice exams, so my primary focus is on new methods to properly create and use those. As for what I find challenging about online assessments, making sure any assessments are of quality is my biggest concern.
