These are embedded at the end of every lesson in my unit. It gives me, as a teacher, a quick check into students’ knowledge on each of the interactions of the geosphere and hydrosphere by using tools such as a 3-2-1, quick write, exit quiz, concept map, and comic strip. These come together to address misconceptions the students have, challenge and extend content, and ensure that students take away the main idea from every lesson

I believe that assessment is a vital component of the learning process, as it is the means of evaluating how much students know, understand, and are able to do. In beginning with the end in mind, assessment was what shaped the entire focus and trajectory of the unit

In my unit, students at the end of every lesson, get a variety of checkpoints through instruction to check for understanding. We use a variety of informal assessments, including thumbs-up, think-pair-share, questioning tools, and turn and talks all as a means of assessing how students are synthesizing the material and what misconceptions they are creating. Thus, the teaching can be consistently tailored and driven based on the students.
