But one night while he was playing some HJ soldiers asked him to play a German song and Arvid freaked out and started to yell saying the Jews weren't bad, neither were African Americans and anyone else that Nazi Germany did not think was worthy to be a German. This really helped open up Arvid's friend Peter eyes to see that the Jews didn't do anything wrong it was Germany no them. But this made his other friend Thomas very angry. So after that whole ordeal Arvid makes himself a bath and slits his wrist and commits suicide. Arvid acted very strongly against Nazi society because he knew it was wrong and he didn't want to be a murder. Arivd wanted people to see that the Jews were just people and that they weren't in the wrong it was Germany. Arvid's big choices were to express how he felt against Nazi Germany and stand up to what he believed. But sadly after he did do the right thing he killed himself and so that was also a big choice of his. Arvid got beat up by a group of Nazis from the H.J. and he was no longer able to easily play his guitar. He felt abandoned and betrayed by his friends, especially Thomas, because they are cruel to him  and don't believe him. His major choices were to live as a cripple and constantly be told he was unworthy and live in a world which he hated or not to live at all. The stress and sadness gets to him and he committed suicide. In the beginning of the film, his friends and activities kept his morale high. Later, however, he was beaten by members of the HJ in the street, rendering two of his fingers useless. Soon after, he discovered that his friends had joined the HJ, a shocking realization. His friends, who had always been there by his side, dancing swing and listening to his music, had essentially turned on him. From this instance his morale began a steady decline. The final straw in his descent took place at a club he was playing at. A Nazi requested a "good German song," which offended Arvid to the point of emotional breakdown. He retaliated, explaining how horrible the new Nazi-constructed culture was, and what the blind followers had become. His (former) friend, Thomas, ridiculed him outside the club. Seeing that he had no where to go, and no friends to stand by, Arvid went home and slit his wrists in the bathtub. Arivd felt betrayed by his closest friends, they tried to tell him that it was only so they did not get into trouble and they could be HJ by day and swing kids by night. He knew that their plan would never work out, feeling alone he began to really express how he felt, then one day HJs came and beat him up. After getting beaten up Arivd did not leave his room. The HJ insisted he play a song that they know he can't play, and that's when he freaked out on them. He stood up for what was right. This is why Arvid acted out so emotionally against the Nazis. He knew that what they were doing wasn't right, and he had a very strong opinion about that. His friends turned on him and joined the HJ, and it changed them tremendously. It affected their friendships, because they disagreed on so many topics.
