In biology we are able to take a look at the world and how things affect it. We can look at environmental issues and how they affect different populations. We are able to tie these together and the students see it on a personal level.

This is a skill that has to be practiced. At the beginning of the year my students ask obvious questions, like what does the mitochondria do for the cell. By the end of the year they are answering those simple questions and are asking high level questions. Every year my students are getting better at this and the reason is because I am asking better questions.
