This book gives us many insights about what might be happening to a victims family and friends. The novel also gives us tells us about what is going on in peoples minds when they are violent. This book contains a lot of violence, and because of that, I think that this novel negative impact/impression on its readers. I Think that this novel has a negative impression on its readers because it encourages violence, at the end of the novel Starr is described to be throwing a smoke bomb at the cops, although this action was evoked, I still think that this novel gives the wrong message. There other ways to speak for what you believe in than violence.

this book gives insights and new perspectives about the victims friends/family of police brutality and racial injustice. This novel shows how victims might be experiencing anger and frustration like Starr. I think this novel has a positive impact it teaches readers to stand up for what they believe in.

agree with what you said about the negative impression it has on its readers, I didn't think about how this novel is encouraging violence. Because of this point I actually think that his novel gives both a good and bad impression on its readers.

I agree with the fact that violence is displayed in this novel and it conveys a negative message but I think that not all aspects of this book are negative. there were also many positive messages displayed, like Lucy said this book teaches you to stand up for what you believe in.

We chose this question because this novel is being banned in many school districts and we wanted to see if this novel really gave a negative or positive message. We chose this discussion from all of our flipgrid dialogues because many of our group members had different opinions about the message being conveyed. some of us think that this book conveys a positive message because it is teaching us to stand up for what we believe in. our other member argues that even though it is teaching you to stand up for your self it is telling readers the only ways to do it is through violence. we chose this discussion because we also wanted to understand why this book was being banned. With this discussion` we are able to see different standpoint/ opinions about this novel. Another reason we liked this conversation was because we were able to argue and share our points, in this conversation all of our view point were expressed.

I see how this makes sense. since this is directed to more mature readers they won't do everything they read about. for example they probably won't go on a riot and throw smoke bombs just because they read it in a book. I think the author included negative aspects in this novel do we could learn what not to do .

I see how this novel has negative and positive impacts but since this novel is directed to young adults, I think that the author wanted us to learn just from the positive message. She might have put the violence part just so we could see/ understand a new perspective. She might have made Starr riot so when readers see such events on TV or in the news we are able to understand the rioters perspective.

I see your point but not all readers might see the violence part as what not to do. They might think , " since I read it in a book it must be right" so these readers could go on a riot and start being very violent just because they read it in book. The readers could potentially get hurt or arrested just because of the negative message conveyed in this novel
