1- Problem Size

One- Third of Producer Food Is Wanted: Every year, one-third of all food produced worldwide Is thrown away. This amounts to approximately a trillion euros and weighs around 1.3 billion tons of wasted food.

Environmental Impact:if food waste were a country, It would be the third-largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world.

Main Causes: Food waste primarily occurs due to discarding products that don't meet ideal market standards. For exemple perfectly edible fruits and vegetables are often discarded because they are bruised, stained, or smaller than averge.

2- Causes of Food Waste

Household: In developed countries, over half of food waste occurs in people's homes. In Italy, for instance ,approximately 700 grams of food are thrown away each week, amounting to about 3.8€, totalling 195€ annually.

Retail and Restaurants: Retailers and Restaurants also contribuite to food waste by discarding products that don't meet market standards.

3- Effects and Solutions

Environment: Food waste depletes natural resources and contributes to global warming, pollution, and land and energy consumption.

Economy: Besides the economy loss for consumers, food waste negatively impacts the global economy.

Awareness and Behavoir Change: Educating people about the importance of reducing food waste and promoting sustainable parctices can help mitigate the Problem.

In summary, combating food waste requires collective efforts at individual, corporate, and governmental levels. Reducing food waste is essential to preserve out planet's resources and ensure a sustainable future for all.

Vlada

Earth Day is an annual event where people around the world celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. It is held every year on April 22 and involves activities such as cleaning parks, planting trees, raising awareness about climate change and other initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable behavior and the conservation of the planet.

1) Description of the problem:

There are several environmental problems on Earth, including climate change, air, water and soil pollution, deforestation, loss of biodiversity and depletion of natural resources. These problems threaten the health of ecosystems, animals and people, and require global action to address them.

2) Causes:

The causes of environmental problems are multiple and often interconnected. Some of the main ones include human activity such as the excessive use of fossil fuels which contribute to climate change, the emission of pollutants into the air and water resulting from industrial processes and vehicles, deforestation to make room for agriculture or to urbanization, the overexploitation of natural resources, and the loss of habitat due to urban expansion.

3) Collettive actions:

Reduce energy consumption, use sustainable means of transport such as walking, cycling or taking public transport, reduce, reuse and recycle waste, support sustainable agriculture by purchasing local and organic food, and support environmental policies and initiatives through civic participation and support for organizations and movements that promote sustainability.

1 Who are the pollinators? Birds, bats, butterflies, moths, flies, beetles, wasps, small mammals, and most importantly, bees are pollinators. They visit flowers to drink nectar or feed off of pollen and transport pollen grains as they move from spot to spot.

2Why are bees the most important pollinators? The simplest answer is that bees pollinate food crops. Pollination occurs when insects travel from one plant to the next, fertilizing the plant. Bees have little hairs all over their body that attract pollen.

3Why do we need them? We need bees. We may take them and other pollinators like butterflies and hoverflies for granted, but they're vital to stable, healthy food supplies and key to the varied, colourful and nutritious diets we need (and have come to expect).

4Types of bees. Not all bees are the same. There are over 20,000 known species of bee globally. Around 270 species of bee have been recorded in the UK. Only 1 of these is the famous Honeybee.Like Honeybees, the familiar Bumblebees live in social colonies - usually in holes in the ground or tree cavities.

5impact on the environment if the extinct. Loss of pollinators could lead to lower availability of crops and wild plants that provide essential micro-nutrients for human diets, impacting health and nutritional security and risking increased numbers of people suffering from vitamin A, iron and folate deficiency.

sitografia

Friends of the earth https://friendsoftheearth.uk/

The melting of glaciers is a phenomenon that puts in danger the stability of our planet and the life of the communities that live in it. The ice masses are disappearing, leading to the extinction of various animal species that live there, (such as polar bears), and contributing to the rise of sea levels, an event that could lead to catastrophic consequences for our coastal cities and the people who live there.

The causes of melting ice caps are multiple and complex, but one of the main ones, is human-induced climate change. Increased emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, into the atmosphere are causing global warming. This leads to rising temperatures around the world, including polar regions and mountainous areas, accelerating the melting of glaciers.

Faced with this threat, it is important to act both individually and collectively:

Reduce emissions: It is important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and each of us can help by reducing our environmental impact by adopting a sustainable lifestyle

Awareness and Education: Spread awareness about the importance of glacier conservation and the causes of climate change through education and awareness raising

Biodiversity, or biological diversity, is a term that refers to the number of genes, species, individual organisms within a given species or biological communities in a defined geographic area; ranging from the smallest ecosystem to the global biosphere.

The loss of biodiversity describes the decline in the number, genetic variability, variety of species and the biological communities in a given area.

This loss in the variety of life can lead to a breakdown in the functioning of the ecosystem where decline has happened.

For example the destruction of the tropical forest to make space for the cultivation of soya, sugar cane or oil palm is the main cause of biodiversity loss.
The tropical forest is very rich in biodiversity and every year millions of hectares are destroyed for these reasons.

Thinking about this fact, however, we can understand that not only the forests have been damaged, but also the fauna that lives in it has been compromised.
The extinction of animal species is indeed another effect of biodiversity loss. The causes of the loss of biodiversity are:

-human beings

-climate change

-deforestation

-destruction of habitats

-invasive alien species

-excessive hunting and overfishing

-Overexploitation of the natural environment

- urbanization

-pollution.

So, what can we do to reduce the loss of biodiversity?

Like was said in the Cop28 the last december in Dubai, we can do many actions that can reduce the loss of biodiversity by reducing emissions of CO2 and counteracting the effects of climate change such as flooding and erosion.

We can: protect natural landscapes and limit the deforestation, restore key ecosystems (such as peat bogs) increase the biological diversity of degraded environments, renaturalise rivers modified by human action, improve agricultural and livestock farming practices towards more sustainable forms and, my favorite: create new protected areas such as naturalistic oases, national and regional parks.

Igor

The ocean plays a key role in human existence; it is essential for our survival, well-being and prosperity. It provides food, regulates our climate, and generates most of the oxygen we breathe. It also serves much of the world’s economy, supporting sectors from tourism to fisheries and to international shipping while it is connected to our culture and is a major source of inspiration. However, the health of seas and the ocean, and of marine ecosystems in particular, is threatened by unsustainable practices such as discharges of wastewater and marine litter, unregulated and unreported fishing, unsustainable shipping and tourism activities. To mitigate the negative impacts from human interventions and improve the current state of our oceans, it is essential to join efforts on a global scale.

Collaboration among nations, NGOs, private entities, academia, professional groups, civil society organizations and more, is of paramount importance for implementing effective solutions, fostering sustainable practices, and safeguarding the delicate equilibrium of our oceans.

Poaching is the illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights. Poaching was once performed by impoverished peasants for subsistence purposes and to supplement meager diets.

The cause is not only human greed, A study of thousands of killings in 30 African countries found that where communities are healthier and wealthier, fewer elephants are poached.

In Africa there are women who have decided to take up arms to defend their land from poachers. These heroines are called Akashinga, and they the last year saved 80 elephants!!!

librio francesco.

(Allego anche il powerpoint per l' esposizione)

Overpopulation is phenomenom in wich a specis' population becomes larger than the carrying capacity of its enviroment.

UN projects that half of Earth's population growth in the next three decades will occur in Asia, followed by Africa.

In contrast Europe's birth rate will remain lower than the genral world's progress.

In 1800 Earth had approximately 1 billion inhabitants, wich rose within 200 years to the 7.5 billion today.

Rising births and population boom are component of a four steps process called the DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION:

1- during 1700 women gave birth to 4 - 6 childrean each, but statistically only two of them survived to adulthooh.

2- after the Idustrial Revolution the great deth rates lowered thanks to the great developement end population grew exponentially.

3- with the income of well-being after 1850 population growth reached an estabilishement.

4- Nowdays only few states have reached this stage in wich envoleves a reducion of conceptions and a decrease of population growth.

It's been demostrated that any policies involving targets to decrease human population aren't going to make much difference in population growth, in addiciton to that they' re almost universally condamned.

It might be possible whatever that with simple methods as: prviding contraceptions where they're needed, providing vaccines and hygine awareness capaigns, to reduce overpopulation without imposing inhuman rules.

Overpopulation has also an impact on our enviroment in fact the needings of more and more humans will lead to an overconsume of Earth's resources, an increase in fossil fuels' burning and consequentially to an increase of global worming.

There will be ecological impacts such as deforestation, to bild cities, desertification, due to the high temperatures, and the desappearce of a large quantity of wild species.

More deseases will affect humans beacuse ilnesses will sprea a lot faster, causing frequent pandemics, as Covid - 19.

The most allarming outcome of overpopulation is that when we talk about issues due to population growth we imply that some of us are worthier of life than others, and that had already driven us to a dark path in history.

sitografia

www.hir.harvard.edu

20th June 2022 Overpopulation

www.unfpa.org

SWP Report 2023: the problem with "too many"

www.BBC.com

5th September 2022 How many people can Earth handle?

www.nih.gov

2019 The effect of population growth on the enviroment.
