In 54 BC, Julius Caesar arrived on the Kent coast. He conquered the Cantiaci tribe and Catuvellauni tribe. However, he left to Gaul and never returned, halting further expansion.

AD 43

In AD 43, the Romans arrived, battling the Catuvellauni, who were prominent in the South. After various battles, the Catuvellauni surrendered to the Romans.

AD 47-61

From AD 47-61, the Romans expanded east and west. In AD 51, the Romans conquered the Cornovii, followed by the Iceni, who had revolted but failed, in 61 AD.

AD 70-79

In AD 70-79, the Romans expanded their empire towards the West, known as modern day Wales.

AD 80-88

From AD 80-88, the Romans began to expand northward up to modern day Scotland. They conquered the Damnonii, Selgovae and Novantae.

AD 90-200

From AD 90-200, Romans ruled the majority of the South. The non conquered land up north had divided into the Maeatae and Caledonii.

AD 200-300

From AD 200-300, the Roman emperor Severus attempted to conquer Caledonii and Maeatae. However, after his death, the area of modern day Scotland was never regained.

AD 409-425

From AD 409-425, Roman power began to weaken. Smaller territories including Wales regained independent power. The Roman Empire became smaller and government officials lost positions of power, losing their territory in modern day Britain.

AD 382-409

From AD 382-409, the Roman commander Maximus had marched onto Gaul with military force. In the same year that they withdrew forces, there were many riots in Britain, causing Roman officials to be pushed out of power.
