         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Ventilation Mechanism - maintains concentration gradients of O2 and CO2, as air moves into our lungs it has a low concentration of oxygen and high concentration of carbon dioxide.  The alveoli allows these gasses to be exchanged by diffusion.<br>- Affects of exercise on ventilation- <strong>Ventilation</strong> increases abruptly in the initial stages of <strong>exercise</strong> and is then followed by a more gradual increase. <br>- Type 1 pneumocytes- long and thin, provide a surface for the outside air and capillaries for oxygen and carbon dioxide to be exchanged. <br>- Type 2 pneumocytes - short and round, they secrete surfactant lining the inside of alvioli , used to equal out the pressure in the aliviolus. </div>]]></description>
