These key words help me keep in line with my overall theme and style. From previous logos I have designed before in and out of uni, I already had some pre-existing ideas on how I would want my personal logo to look. First, I started sketching my name in different variations to decide which worked best for a logo. My initial portfolio name was to be ‘by shelly’ as it is fun and easy, but after trying it out it felt too long to have in a logo, and I also couldn’t find an appropriate and effective way to use gestalt theory without making it looked forced. My initials for Michelle Waller are ‘ M W’ and these two letters work perfectly in coinciding symmetry and balance. When testing these two letters out I found it worked best for the logo, not only because of the gestalt in symmetry among the characters, but also because it is short, fun, and easy to work with when making variations. After deciding which name, I wanted to use, I chose a font that expresses my key words of “Y2K” and “cyber” to keep my style consistent among all areas. In all my designs and work, I have a consistent use of shapes such as stars, moons and circle/rings, so I wanted to use these shapes in my logo to be coherent with my work. Adding a star on both the M and the W of the logo allowed for more law of symmetry, because if you flipped the logo around it would still read the same. Adding a ring around the MW allowed for closure and a neat finish to the logo. Finally, the colours I used were exactly aligned to my colour pallet and theme throughout the whole semester.
