This was the U.S's answer to finally invade the phillipeines after months of deliberation. The area was occupied by japan after a long island hopping campaigns completed by the U.S. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Nazi Germany was bombing the United Kingdom<br>- Hitler put an emphasis on area bombing after having failed to destroy the ' Royal Air Force'. These bombings would take place at night and focus on denser cities and British ports.&nbsp;<br>- Although there was over 45,000 tons of bombs, 180,000 casualties and 23,000 fatalities between July and December British morale held.&nbsp;<br>- The last major attack against London was the night of May 10-11 , 1941.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Germany tried to break British control of the Eastern Mediterranean front by seizing Crete<br>- From Crete, the Germans could range to the coast of North Africa<br>- The Greece and British forces was consisted mostly of depleted units taken from Greece<br>- On May 20th, the German Air Force was assaulted with a parachute division after their own air strikes<br>- The British Navy intercepted and destroyed reinforcements that were coming to them by sea, while also suffering heavily from German air attacks<br>- The battle ended on June 1st when the Allied powers surrendered </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- The Allies were under heavy pressure from the Soviet Union to draw off German forces from the East by opening a “Second Front"<br>- The Allies prepared to seize one port in an operation to test German reaction and defense&nbsp;<br>- Commandoes got ashore and neutralized flanking artillery batteries, but the element of surprise was compromised when they hit the shore<br>- The Allies did not achieve air supremacy after the raid and lost way more troops than Germany did<br>- The operation was a failure and proved to ultimately be a very costly failure&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>June 6th, 1944: Allied armies led a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy. The assault involved millions of troops and ultimately led to the liberation of France; then furthermore the end to the war.&nbsp;<br>This would be the beginning of the U.S pushing a more land offense against the Germans.&nbsp;<br>425,000 Allied and German troops were killed. 210,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 killed amongst the ground forces and a further 16,000 deaths amongst the Allied air forces.<br>Operation Overlord was just the invasion of France and was an operation that was suppose to bring about the end of the war. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Omaha Beach was the second location where the U.S landed in France in June. This coast was home to Vierville-sur-Mer in the west, Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer in the center and the villages of Colleville-sur-Mer and Le-Grand-Hameau in the east.&nbsp;<br>The night before the landing on the beach, bombers would drop hundreds of bombs on the sandy shore of the German defenses.&nbsp;<br>The first wave was dramatically the worst for causalities, but in total there was 2,400 casualties for the U.S, but 34,000 Allied troops landed by nightfall. </div>]]></description>
