Uncle Billy left Poker Flat as he was kicked out for being a drunkard and he was suspected of stealing gold. The town made this decision while they were kicking out the other two women. Uncle Billy seems very hostile to this, as he yells and threatens and curses while leaving. He seems to be very upset but also almost like he had no idea what to do next, as he was yelling yes but he was also retreating.

This character ended the story by being a plot development. He left the group and stole most of their resources, so the group was stuck in a dangerous situation. Harte leaves this character like this simply for plot development, which is most likely why Uncle Billy doesn't have as much character qualities as the others do.

Uncle Billy is a villain, as he is really only meant for plot development and doing so he steals the resources and mules from the group. Leading up to this he also seems to be excited about doing so, as if it was a silly joke and not almost sentencing them to death.
