One suggestion I would have is to indicate to students if assessments as/for learning are required to be included in a portfolio immediately. Of course, maybe this teacher communicated with her class about the expectations but it came as a bit of a surprise these products were being collected once we came to the "Portfolio Checklist" folder. All of a sudden there's this list of what were seemingly activities being required to be handed in; are all those necessary? It has clear agendas. Considerable thought seems to have gone into the sequencing of the topics.

I liked the mix of synchronous and asynchronous each day. The use of synchronous time seemed to maximize interactions with games and other collaborative activities using a variety of external tools (e.g EdPuzzles & VoiceThread). The "letter to the teacher" assignment has a lot of potential for gathering feedback and allowing students reflect on their own learning. 

One possible criticism is that the site is heavy on video content, and some of them seem to be quite long. These could be be broken down in to smaller clips. I also wondered how agile a teacher can be, when the modules are organized so rigidly by date. This offers little flexibility to delve deeper into topics that seem of particular interest to the class. It also doesn't allow much time for remediation, if the material was not well understood by many of the students.

Juts a few thoughts, overall I think this provides good clarity to the student and has an engaging mix of activities.

I think this online classroom is perfectly balanced with content, organization, manageable assessment and opportunities for enrichment. The use of Blackboard was exquisite allowing for an organized display of lessons and evaluation. I also liked how the lessons were framed using current topics that students are engaged with, like the Steve Jobs commencement speech and the world in 2050 videos. I also liked how the teacher chose which evaluations to grade per Unit and which to save for the final grade, yet still providing feedback along the way. This allows for the demands of evaluations to be more manageable. 

The challenge all the time is how to spark motivation to learn and develop that online environment. Something that this teacher could consider using that we saw in a previous sample is the online motivational comments board. This would allow students to build community and boost moral in the online environment. I also think a Daily communication forum would be a great check-in for students to complete daily when they sign-in to their course. This would infuse some accountability for students and provide documentation for teachers showing the participation of their students.

I am concerned about the amount of videos, keeping ones attention for a number of back-to-back videos can be taxing.
