I feel we should be given an extension to picking our module choices as we would have had only 2 weeks of lectures. It is quite overwhelming to watch all the lectures and we not learnt enough to see what the exams questions to expect from us

Workshops

I think workshops will be better if it was held in a workshop room rather than the lecture theatre. It is difficult to engage and work on problems in small groups to bounce of ideas due to the layout of the hall. Additionally, having workshops in a room will be easier for lecturers to circulate and individuals to ask questions.

Lecture - Labs arrangement

Would it be possible to go back to having 2 consecutive weeks of lectures followed by 2 consecutive weeks of labs / alternating weeks? The gap between lectures is really big, I find it hard to remember the content

Problem sheets

Will the lecturers give more out problem sheets for practice? It seems like a waste to use the past paper questions but especially with very few lectures per module so far there isn’t really a way to test your understanding.

Autumn BSc Projects

This is probably more of something which could be implemented in the future (it’s too late now) but I personally don’t think it’s fair for students to be split between the autumn and summer for Bsc projects. It’s so overwhelming completing project work in the autumn and then handing in the report so close to the Christmas holidays, which leaves such little time for revision. Spring BSc students have a further 5 weeks after handing in their reports to revise for summer exams, whereas autumn students only have 3 weeks over the Christmas holidays to revise for January exams.

Transition metals chemistry

When I do past papers I notice that transition metals questions are much more difficult in comparison to that of my other electives. The content in questions doesn’t appear to relate much to the content taught either .. they seem to be reactions taken from publications. My notes seem to be a bit of a waste , seeing as none of the reactions we were taught comes up

Grading

There’s so many grading disparities that penalise students who choose to do a certain module/ lab. Some modules or labs inherently have a grade distribution that leans towards the left or right. I wonder if the department reviews this kind of information.
