With technology taking over our world, cyberbullying has become a pandemic which is hurting our society. The culprit is social media, but only social media can put a stop to this global problem. In my Social Media Curation Assignment, I will show some of the impacts of these heartless attacks, but also, what people are doing on Social Media to try and stop it.

This is a website made to help educate and inform parents, teacher and children about how to prevent cyberbullying. It speaks of the impact and consequences that cyberbullying has on the adolescent population. I think it is very effective that they are putting cyberbullying information pages on Facebook because this is the most widely used social media outlet, that in turn makes the information reach more people

Youtube is a very vulnerable site to cyberbullying attacks. People all over the world can post what they want on anyone's videos whether or not they know them. A lot of cyberbullies attack people they dont know because they think there will be no repercussions. I think it is great that Youtube has a harassment and cyberbullying policy. It helps control the comments and what is being posted, in the attempt to protect the public.

Cyberbullying is spoken about on many well known websites and organizations. The Red Cross' "mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world" (Canadian Red Cross, 2018, para. 1). It is mainly adolescents who become victim to cyberbully attacks and anyone who is a victim is a vulnerable person. The Canadian red cross is using their website to get information out there and provide help.

Middle age people don't normally use Instagram, Twitter or Facebook as much as the younger generation. The news is a great way to get the information out to the parents of the children who could be getting cyberbullying. This is a devastating story but it is posted in the hopes of helping the next little girl through this terrible experience.

I think this commercial captures cyberbullying in a perfect way. It isn't emotionally straining like some of the commercials out there. It can be played on TV in front of kids and still get the message across. This is a post on Youtube but the social media outlet I chose to emphasize is live TV, such as cable and satellite. The majority of the population sits down after their days to watch TV, so putting commercials on that spread awareness would be very effective.

I understand Netflix isn't technically a social media site, but it utilizes all social media sites for promotion. 13 Reasons Why was a huge ethical conversation piece in March of 2017. It cracked open the lid on bullying and cyberbullying, and Netflix advertising it on Facebook and Twitter it was the most widely watched show when released. This show has a very strong message and Netflix was the one to get it out there.

This is a strong ad that represents how lasting the things we say can be on a person. I feel ads and videos get the message across the best. Video outlets, not just Youtube, but the ads that are on Facebook and Commercials have a great impact on society. I think mostly for the people that aren't looking to further their knowledge on this topic or just don't care, a quick video/ad catches their attention and makes them hear the message.

This is a site with many informative tabs such as what cyberbullying is, where to get help, and how to handle the problem. It also has information for teachers, how to recognize cyberbullying and what to do.
It's also a blog, this is where people write personal stories and experiences. There are posted from concerned mothers, parents with helpful tips who have been through the same hardship and children who want to share their story.
I feel blogs are a great social media outlet for this type of problem. People who have been victim to a certain crime/experience reach out to those who they can relate to and lean on. That is why there are AA meetings, sponsors etc. Blogs are just an online version of a support group and it is seeming to be very helpful.

Cyberbullying facts - Poster/ad

I came across this poster on Google Images, I was scrolling and it stopped me in my tracts. Statistics and facts are hard evidence which can be collected and replicated, the facts shown on this poster are disturbingly sobering to how prevalent cyberbullying is. Google Images is actually a very used social media resource, children use it for projects all the time, or just for fun. It is helpful because when you click on the picture you are interested in it brings you to their website.
Posters are also a great resource for getting information out there. I have seen many posters around my previous schools about bullying awareness, and I can say I have stopped and read them.

This article states that Instagram is the leading social media site for cyberbullying, 6% of users have reported being bullied on this app, whereas Facebook, Twitter and Youtube have 5% and lower.
I put this post in here to show that even though social media has come along way with its policies and its filtering of its comments there is still along ways to go. Cyberbullying is a global issue and it is going to take a village to help and prevent the effects and continuation of these attacks.
