Title: Overgrown
Completed: 10/25/16
Materials used: Colored Pencil, Sharpie, Cray Pas
Reflection: I titled this project "Overgrown" because this is a close up drawing of ivy, overgrown on top of a window. What came to my mind as I was creating this piece was how nature sometimes goes unseen due to the lack of upkeep or if things are overgrown. I added faceless humans to this project to show that people can be unseen just as often as plants and nature can be unseen. I began this project by using cray pas, but I came to realize that colored pencil was much easier to work with small areas and coloring in the leaves was easier with a fine tip. If there was something I could add to this piece, I would add exposed brick to the background behind the window to add more color and value.

Title: Idea into Industry
Completed: 11/4/16
Materials used: Soft pastel, Sharpie, Newspaper
Reflection: I call this piece "Idea into Industry" because my idea behind this project was how people begin with an idea in their mind (represented by a brain), eventually take that idea and study it (represented by books), and ultimately that idea expands and grows into a new innovation whether it be something small or something as big as a city or industry. All things begin with a simple idea, and that's what I tried to explain in this composition. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the soft pastel colors bursting from the sides, but my idea was to show creativity and how effortless ideas really spread into bigger and better things. I loved using newspaper on this project, I thought the collage aspect added to my storyline and by using PVA glue, it was transparent and looked more like a collage which was one part I really liked about this piece.

Title: A Wave of Imagination
Completed: 12/9/16
Materials used: Watercolor, Sharpie, Cray Pas, Acrylic, Colored pencil
Reflection: I really enjoyed creating this piece, but I did have some struggles with completing the hair. I created this piece with the message being that I have a lot more creativity in my mind and imagination than I realize. I focused on just the top part of my face, accentuating on the eyelashes because that's one part of me that I believe stands out. I showed how imagination diffuses both in and out of the mind by using clusters of doodles and using darker colors in some areas with the watercolor, fading into less as you move up or down the page. If I were given the chance to redo this assignment, I think the only thing I would really try to fix and perfect would be my face and hair. I would add value to the face to make it look more realistic, and possibly make the hair more voluminous.

Title: Touch to Expansion
Completed: 9/16/16
Materials used: Soft pastel, Watercolor, Colored pencil, Sharpie
Reflection: This is my favorite project we worked on this semester. I loved the materials I used on this, specifically soft pastel because it's one of my favorite mediums. I call this the "Touch to Expansion" because when I look at it, it reminds me of something magical happening as a hand touches nature; a maturation or expansion of the environment. One thing I struggled with on this piece was with the grass below the branches on the right. I think I could have added more detail and value to the grass to make it look more alive and moving, so I would go back and change that if I could. The main aspect of this piece I really enjoyed doing was creating new shades with soft pastel and blending colors-- lighter in some areas and darker in others.
