I have learned a lot from the book and I have used many tools from the book to plan and lead the guided reading.

We had an in school, curriculum PD for Cognitive Development.

It was essentially reading and paraphrasing some articles about how to better ask questions. It was okay, since I have very little to compare it to, but I could see that the experienced teachers were not into it.

I do wonder if there are resources with lists of high quality consultants or trainings. Otherwise, most PD is hit or miss.

Watching other teachers

I have found that watching other teachers across subject areas has helped give me new insights into how I can teach. Not only that but I enjoy seeing my students in another light. A student that might struggle in ESL might be an articulate young learner in history or an inquisitive mind in science. It helps me see the full student and gives me different ideas for how I can help all students.

My mentor suggested I join a teacher community to focus on the struggling areas, ask for professional help, and constantly get my area teaching materials. What is more important is to keep up with the latest news and update our instructions as well as educational digital tools.
