Chris Gardner is an optimist. he is clever and ambitious. He is also a loving father. He gambles a lot with their money situation.

linda Gardner is a pessimist. She is not motivating.  She is very accusing and she seems angry most of the time.

He is an honest man, hardworking with a fighter mentality. He wants the best for his child, so he tries to educate him. He is an optimist with a twist of being delusional aswell.

His wife Linda Gardner
Here, we see a strong independant female. She works for the money, working double shifts for weeks on end. She tries to grasp their situation but ends up crushing under the pressure. When they split up, she tries to be collaborating by fetching their son after daycare and then to return him to Chris afterwards.
 
Their relationship. : 

This relationship wasn't ment to last. They are always fighting, they aren't communicating proberly. They aren't trying to see things from eachothers perspective
. They are together for the sake of the boy, but oh lord, it didn't last.

    • He is determined - we see it after his night in jail, and he still goes to the job interview. 
    • He is devoted to his son - he tells him, that he never should take a no for an answer, and tells him that he can do everything he wants, even if other people tells him otherwise.

    • "Used" - we can see in the film that she works two jobs. 
    • She is resigned - she leaves her family 
    • She is dissatisfied, with the life they had together. 
    •  she is a quitter 
    Their realtionship:

    • Their relationship is insecure, the fight a lot and do not trust in each other.  
    • They are gown apart, and now have differences  goals in life.
