Ceres: Joelyn Flores and Angelina Parker
Ceres is a Roman goddess! She is the goddess of agriculture, grain AND the love a mother bears for her child/children. Many people celebrate her and her holiday with a 7 day festival that starts on April 12th! Ceres’ daughter, “Proserpine” was once noticed by “Hades”. He fell in love with Proserpine and with her father’s approval, Hades kidnapped Proserpine and took her as his wife. Ceres spent 9 days and nights searching for Proserpine. Then, the sun god told Ceres everything that had happened. Ceres then exiled herself until her daughter had been returned, which had ended with earth becoming a “wasteland”. Prosperine then ate a pomegranate that bound her in marriage to Hades. Finally, a compromise was made. Proserpine would divide her time between her husband and mother. When she accompanied her mother, the Roman’s say that all of Ceres’ joy caused the earth to blossom in spring and summer. The Romans also say, when Prosperine returned to her husband in the underworld, “Ceres grief resulted in the decline of autumn and winter”.

Fun Fact!
