For this academic school year, I will have the privilege to teach your child about the importance of art as well as developing artistic skills and how they can integrate this subject into their personal lives. As we begin our academic careers with that in mind. I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.

I am Vanessa Jimenez, and this will be my first-year teaching after receiving my teacher certification. I've graduated from the The University Texas at Austin with a B.F.A in Studio Art on 2023. I would like to extend my knowledge of being a an artist through my time at U.T Austin and what I have personally learned as well.

My passion for art stems from the belief that students and adults have the right to express themselves no matter what stages of life or background they live in. I grew up in a school district that underfunded and disregarded the art department, so I would like to end that cycle as much as possible by having students engage with art.

As a teacher it is my responsibly to enhance your knowledge from previous art courses to develop them for you to become an advance artist. Despite this course being primarily a painting course, you are still expected to set a standardized skill that will help you guide on how to proceed in establishing an art project on your own after you graduate high school.

By enforcing these standardized skills within this school year, you will be prepared to extend your research abilities beyond art courses such as science, engineering, or mathematics that may require you to apply personalized research.

 This class works primarily through hands on experience, classwork will be an essential part of the learning experience. Instructions for assignments, due dates, and all other resources will be communicated via in person or through Padlet. Most homework assignments will be done within a sketchbook bought at the beginning of the school year.

Late work and Absences:

Students will be given a one-day grace period for late assignments, after this grace period students will receive an automatic deduction towards their assignment grade for each day the work is not submitted. Only certain circumstances can this grace period be extended such as accommodations provided by the school or a phone call made with the parent.

Methods of contact:

Students and parents are free to contact me with questions or concerns about a student’s assignment or other issues. This can be through school email, Padlet or a scheduled phone call.

Art is a subjective matter, and there are many opinions and observations a student may make or hear during their discussions when reviewing other student’s artwork. This makes respect, communication, and educated opinions an essential part of the classroom in order for everyone to blossom as an artist through healthy and supportive art critiques.

After that, you will then evaluate the effectiveness of combining the observed painting techniques into a presentation.

Discussion: Your group will participate in a classroom discussion about identifying advanced painting techniques and encourage to freely conceptualize your perception of reviewed artworks.

I will review your plans and provide critiques or suggested adjustments in order for these projects to be completed in a manner that is equal or higher than your current skill levels.

This is intended to avoid any future frustrations that may affect the quality of your final submission.

2. Apply: Depending on their chosen painting materials, students will use advanced painting techniques such as impasto, varnishing and, layering to create unique works of art that will reflect their areas of research.

3. Evaluate: Students will evaluate their own and their peers' artwork and justify their decision-making process based on their artistic representation they’ve intended to create within their group project based on the collaborative research they’ve done earlier in the course.

4. Create: Students will produce unique artwork by using advanced painting techniques that will include high-level decision-making process throughout their time when working on the assigned project

By carrying on your new found knowledge, you will apply your comprehension of advance painting techniques into a collaborative art project with any chosen medium that are compatible with one another.

These art projects must showcase all of the historical artists and art eras to create a work of art that will mimic their art style and their historical art period.

1. Respect: We will be treating each other, class materials, and peers the way we would want ourselves to be treated by others.

2. Participation: It is essential for you to participate both your in-class assignments and outside. This class is primarily hands on, so there may be some resources that are not available at home as you would have on campus.

3. Kindness: We are all artist, and everyone’s artwork will be unique and possibly outside of the box in regards to imagination. Students should respectfully admire or critique other students’ artwork without the intention to offend or be rude.

4. Responsibility: Class materials are essential for artists; we should keep in mind to have them clean and undamaged so that others can use them without the expense of buying more supplies. If you intentionally damage them or cause accidents without cleaning or seeking assistance from me as a teacher. Then other students may not have the same opportunity to use those class materials.

Late turn ins without a penalty will only be accepted if you are absent on the day of the presentations. Beyond that, for every day you do not turn in your assignment, your grade will be deducted.

Turning in your projects late will receive a deduction towards your assignment grade.
