He tells her what to do and when to do it. He controls her life from how and what she eats, to where she goes on vacation. Every aspect of her life is controlled by him. Her major turning point in the book is when she realizes all this and finally gets out. A big contributing factor to this change was Nate. Nate, Anastasia’s friend found out and brought it up, confronting Aaron, the skiing partner, about it. This causes multiple fights to break out, a shaky path on the way to end. It wasn’t for the bad though. These fights occurred for a reason. It really let Anastasia figure out Aaron’s true colors which led her to drop him even faster. In the end Anastasia cuts ties with him and they both go on to live their lives, just separated.

Two Summers by Aimee Friedman-
I just finished reading the book, “ Two Summers”. I really liked how there was always stuff going on in the back of the characters mind that would stir up the book even more. It also reminded me of my trip alone to India when I was 10.
(297 Pages)

I just finished reading the book, “ The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight”, by Jennifer E. Smith. I really liked how there were many problems or ideas going on at once in the characters mind which lead to a more interesting story line.
(‎272 pages)

I just finished reading the book, “ Icebreaker”, by Hannah Grace. I liked the book because it had 2 perspectives on it. We were hearing from two different perspectives of people in the same room. It really let you understand the characters thoughts about different situations and there personalities.
(448 Pages)

I really liked the book, “Twisted Love”, by Ana Huang because of its two view points and the details in the book. You always knew what was going on and when because of the two sides. You know what’s going on in each characters head after and during a scene because of its two views. The description in the book helps you make a scene in your head easier and makes it less complicated to understand that story.
(352 Pages)

I finished the book, “ I Remember You”, by Cathleen Davitt Bell, last night. I really liked the book because of its suspenseful romance and the story line. Every single page is something suspenseful. The boy, Lucas apparently remembers everything about him and this girl in his class. He remembers a lot that they did and she rembers nothing. It’s written in a mysterious type of way. You never know what Lucas is going to say but everything that he does mention about the past the girl never remembers. The storyline consists of these things that happened in the past in order all the time. Every time they hang out something mysterious happens and it’s always for a reason. It always relates to what they are doing, whether it’s going to a coffee shop or talking at school. It always connects, which makes the book more and more interesting each time.
(322 pages)

On Saturday, I finished the book “Twisted Lies”, by Ana Huang. I really liked how this book had 2 perspectives and ongoing tension and suspense throughout the book. There was a person stalking the main character and the main characters needed to find out who it was. With the two perspectives it helped know what the other character is thinking in the moment about the Issue and finding our secrets the other person doesn’t know. These helped bring along the book and come to the conclusion of who the stalker was, which overall brought a lot of suspense and tension throughout the story.
(560 pages)

On Sunday, I finished the next book in the Twisted Series, “ Twisted Hate”, by Ana Huang. I liked the plot how the two characters hated each other then started to become friends. It showed how both characters gained compassion over there love of helping other people at work. I also liked how there was always a conflict or something to worry about throughout the book. It kept me on my toes while reading, making me want to read more and more.
( 520 pages)

I just finished “Undertow” by Michael Buckley. Two things I really liked about the book is the Erie but not scary aspect and the perspective. The book has the characters in a unsure and new setting which causes a strange but interesting sense. The author makes sure not to have it as a scary book but as a good learning opportunity on someone else’s life and the challenges they have to face. I also really liked the perspective on the book. It portrayed the characters feelings about change really well and also helped bring out the theme/main idea about the need to escape sometimes and how it is important.
(389 Pages)

I finished reading “The Third Mushroom”, by Jennifer Holm. One thing I really liked about this book is the diverse range of genres this book could fall under. There is so many different parts of this book that could fit into different genres like science fiction, fantasy, romance, realistic fiction and more. The book includes multiple elements that make up a really good story, like their dog dying or the grandfather making a cure so he turns 14 again. These both contribute to make the story more eventful and interesting, putting the story in all sorts of genres. Another thing I liked about this book was the way the characters are portrayed and how they fit together. For instance, the grandfather, is a scientist with 2 phd’s and turned himself back into his 14 year old self. His daughter, the mom of the main character is a drama teacher in highschool. They don’t get along because the grandfather always wanted her to be a scientist too. The kid, the main character, however, wants to be a scientist just like his grandfather and they get along and they get there way against the mom. This set up to show more science and life outside of home for the main character which makes the book more fun and enjoyable to read.
(258 Pages)

I read, “ To Kill a Mocking Bird Graphic Novel Edition”, by Fred Fordham. Something that really stuck out to me in this book was the theme . One of the main themes in this book was courage. Atticus, a lawyer, defended Tom, a black of being accused of something he didn’t do. This story was told in the 1950s so nobody believed that a white girl would lie that a black man committed this crime. Atticus knew Tom didn’t do it and went and supported him even though he knew he would get lots of hate from the town. Putting himself and his family in risk of danger he still supported Tom because he has the courage to stand up for what’s right. Another thing I liked about this book was the illustration. The illustrations gave a clear picture about what was happening and helped convey character changes physically and emotionally.
(273 Pages)

I finished the book, Sniffer Dogs How Dogs (and Their Noses) Save the World by Nancy F. Cataldo. I read this book for a science fair research project but I still liked how detailed and engaging the book was. It has a lot of information on each page and was easy to read and pick up on. Many details were used in this information with help me jot more bullet points down for this book.
(160 pages)

I finished the book, “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. One things I really liked about the book was how every detail connected to the book and was repeated. For example, they repeated how the pigs were the smarter animals and the other animals couldn’t understand quite as well as they could. Theo contributed to the book when Napoleon became king he twisted up the story about Snowball and confused all the animals and the animals who found out the true story was the pigs. Another thing I really liked about the book was the characters and how they developed throughout the story. They used to just listen and follow but throughout the book they learned to find there voice and ask questions
when they have them.
(116 Pages)

I just finished, “No Brainer” by Jeff Kinney. I really liked a humorous irony in this book because it made the book more intriguing and entertaining to read. I also liked how the author included graphics expressing the text in the main characters head to include more detail of the main characters internal thoughts.
(230 Pages)

I finished the book “Ugly Love”, by Colleen Hoover. I really liked how the book switched perspectives between the main characters. Furthermore, she switched it from past to present to give us a look back on the main characters life which the other didn’t know about. This brought the reader to know more then the main character and made it more interactive and entertaining. Another thing I really liked about this book was how there were so many motifs and symbols that brought the book to life like the doorman who symbolized hope and Rachel who symbolized change.
(324 pages)

I just finished “A Lie for a Lie” by Helena Huntington. Two things I really liked about this book was how the characters were developed and grew throughout the book and how the storyline went through making the book very interesting the whole way through.
(285 Pages)

I just read, “ The Good Luck Charm” by Helena Huntington. I really liked how the perspective of the characters switched every chapter. It gives the reader a better understanding of the book and put a us ahead of the characters. I also liked how the story went as If the past affects the future because it influences how you should be more aware of yourself and how you feel rather then someone else.
(384 Pages)

I finished reading “Break” by Kayla Miller. I really liked the graphics and the characters in this book. They really stuck out to me because they are like no other book I have read. Each character has a different and unique personality and story then every other character and it is something that I could connect different people to. The graphics go along with this by giving and creating each character’s personality and traits by showing the reader how they look and feel about certain things.
(230 pages)

I finished the book Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I really like the setting of the book taking place in a mental assylum. Not many books have this type of setting which makes a good story. I also liked the character Adam and the mystery surrounding his character.
(417 Pages)

In the book, “ The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight”, the main character, Hadley goes to Europe to visit her dad for the first time since he moved there and attend his wedding. Hadley isn’t very fond of the idea of her dad getting married so soon after the divorce and tries to convince herself to be happy for him, but oftentimes finds herself running back to her past memories of him and their little happy family from years ago. The author shows that Hadley is back in the past by using words and phrases suggesting past tense such as, “ Once upon a time, a million years ago, when Hadley was little and her family was still whole….”. This sentence beginning one of the many flashback scenes helps the reader understand that we are in the past and the time period of the book has switched. This book connects to current events in a setting by showing flashbacks that have a meaning to how Hadley is feeling in the moment. For example, Hadley walked into the wedding nervous and unsure about her father getting remarried and if he would still love her. She sees her dad and her soon to be step mom and there is an obvious elephant in the room. A flashback scene pops up on the next page about her, her mom and her dad catching when she was younger. Hadley catches a firefly and doesn’t want to let it go. Hadley's dad then says, “ You know what they say, Dad said. If you love something, set it free.

What if it doesn’t come back

Some things do, some things don’t, he said, reaching over to tweak her nose. I’ll always come back to you anyway.

You don’t light up, Hadley pointed out, but dad only smiled.

I do when I’m with you” (Smith 123).

When Hadley’s mom and dad got a divorce, Hadleys dad was living in Europe teaching at Oxford. Hadleys dad flew away in a sense, and left Hadley and her mom in New Jersey. Then, in the quote he says that some things don’t always come back but he will always come back to her. This connects with how Hadley feels walking into the wedding because she was anxious about her mixed feelings for her dad. She remembers this thought, calming down her nerves and suggesting that her dad will always love her and never leave her no matter how far away he is.

“The Third Mushroom”, by Jennifer L. Holm is about how a 14 year old boy Ellie, and his grandfather, Melvin, a world renowned scientist in the body of a fourteen year old boy team up for the county science fair in hopes to save their cat's life. The book's main message was to never give up hope, no matter what. Throughout the book many plot twists and scary events occurred but the 2 main characters never gave up and kept on trying to make things better. This connects to a real situation because people experience death through the duration of their life and Holm tries to seek a positive and supportive response on how people can feel about this type of situation. This book showcases a time period of present life of Gen Alphas by including details of high technological science equipment and vehicles. This book connects to current events in a setting by talking about the past and how it is common to what is happening currently. For example, when Melvin is reading romance novels, Ellie asks him why, as he is a scientist and he doesn’t normally read romance novels. Melvin replies and tell him that it is because of his Wife who died and used to love them. This information of the past brings light onto Melvin’s story and helps readers develop the type of character Melvin is.

How does it change the message of the story?

The book, “ Shatter Me”, by Tahereh Mafi, is about a girl named Juliette who has a touch that is lethal and gets sent to an asylum so she can’t hurt anyone with it. After a long time of being stuck there alone the man in power of The Reestablishment, Warner, wants to use her power of death by touch and comes after her. But she meets Warner's guard, Adam, who is an exception to her touch and won’t die from it. So they planned to escape from Warner's evil world and took off to begin their own journey. Towards the end of the story Juliette and Adam find this world underneath the ground filled with people like Juliette with powers they were born with. They find out that this world has been built to save people like them from The Reestablishment. They make a special suit for Juliette and send them off on their way. I enjoyed the ending because it leaves the book on a cliffhanger full of questions. It makes the reader feel more connected to the book and feel the need to get the sequel right away. If I were to extend the ending of this story I would imagine Julliete and Adam stay in the world full of people and figure out who they truly are and why they are like this until The Reestablishment comes to seek and hunt them down. They then would fight back, kill The Reestablishment, take over the world into good hands and finally find a forever home. This makes most sense because they already ran from Warner and his forces once, why would they run again when they have a whole team of people with powers of all sorts to take them down. This changes the message of the story to accept who you are and that you are not alone. Julliete thought she was a terrible person with the power to kill people by touch. That she was a murderous weapon and she was the problem in the world. But Once she met Adam he convinced her that she was perfect as she is and there is nothing wrong with her. The underground world showed her how she isn’t alone and a lot of people have the same problem as her. After this she realizes that she should accept who she is and use it to fight back the evil in the world and make the world a better place with the talents she was given. She no longer feels she’s a threat but Now a savior of the world. Everyone feels safe and secure under her rule as she cares about the people more than The Reestablishment did. The message in this ending really targets people with insecurities and disabilities in the world unlike the message before which was about the importance of love and trust. More people can connect with this message in all age groups and it really hits home.

What would a Netflix series look like for this text? Map it out. What does the episode look like?

I finished reading, “A Dog's Purpose”, by W. Bruce Cameron. This book was about how one dog discovers the meaning of life and love through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. He reincarnated as multiple different dogs over the course of 50 years but finds that he develops an unbreakable bond with Ethan, who he later meets multiple years later. If there would be a Netflix series for this book every season would be one of his lives. The first season would be as a boy named Todd and life with Senora in the veterinarian's office. The second season would be about Bailey living his life with Ethan and his family. The third season would be as a girl named Ellie with Jacob as a search and rescue dog and that after he passes, Ellie goes on the quest to sniff and find older Ethan. Each episode in each season would highlight moments in that life that he loved and were shown in the books. I feel like many people who love animals and the book would watch this series because it overall is a amazing book that teaches the importance of friendship and love.

I finished “Ahmed Aziz's Epic Year”, by Nina Hamza. 2 things I really like about this book were the format of the book and the main idea. This book was written so each chapter is a page turner or a heart-hitter. Every chapter had something in it that wanted readers to keep reading. All these chapters related to the main idea: the main characters discovery of himself. I really liked this main idea because I feel many can relate to it and learn that you shouldn’t change get yourself for others.
(340 Pages)

I finished the book, “Wildfire”, by Hannah Grace. I liked how this book had an aftermath a couple of years later in the end so you can see how the characters changed as they got older. I also liked how it explained what happened to them a couple of years later than what the book scopes. Another thing I liked about this book is how every detail connects to a big picture. I’m the middle of the book, 2 characters passed by a coffee shop and one said she wanted to own one, one day. It was a little conversation in the whole book but later connected when in the aftermath, they owned that exact shop.
(448 Pages)

I finished reading, “ A Dogs Purpose”, by W. Bruce Cameron. I really love how heartfelt this book was. This book touched my heart, as I have a dog myself and I love how it pulled out all my feelings. I also liked how much detail was in the book. Everything connected back to his first owner and how each life was completely different than the first. In total, it was an amazing book.
(338 Pages)

I finished the book, “Atomic Habits”, by James Clear. I really liked how this book gave a claim then evidence then reasoning for each of the 4 poles of habits. The book explains everything super concisely and it helps the reader understand why they should be doing it and how it will help them. I also like the framework of the book of habits. To make it obvious, easy, attractive and effective. It helps readers understand and choose habits to make.
(320 Pages)

I finished the book, “ King of greed”, by Ana Huang. I liked the detail put into the story that helped convey how the characters were feeling. I also liked the metaphors and how everything connected in the book from one thing a character said.
(322 Pages)

I finished reading “King of Wrath” by Ana Huang. I liked how there were 2 sides to the story from each character so you can understand how each character feels in each situation. It makes the reader feel like they are apart of the book. Another thing I liked was the use of irony throughout the book. It made the book funny and more interesting.
(383 Pages)

I finished”Cuba in my Pocket”, by Adrianna Cuevas. I liked this book because it had alot of history in it about Cuba back in the 1900’s when Fidel was ruling the communist country Cuba. I also liked how it cam e form the perspective of a boy moving and coming to a brand new country. It shows the hardships he had to face moving to a new country and leaving his family behind.
(288 Pages)

I finished” Mr. Wolfs Class- FieldTrip” and “ Mr.Wolfs Class- Snow Day, both by Aron Nels Steinke. I liked the illustrations in both books and how they carried the message of kindness and empathy towards others. I also liked the message. I feel like many can learn from it and should remember it.
(169 and 171 pages)

What would a Netflix series look like for this text? Map it out. What does the episode look like?

I just finished reading, “Ahmed Aziz’s Epic Year”, by Nina Hamza. This book was about how a twelve-year-old boy named Ahmed is leaving the only home he has known in Hawaii to move to Minnesota. His dad has Cirrhosis, and Minnesota is the top place for treatment. He has trouble fitting in, as he is different and has stuff going on in his life. However, his new neighbor Jack does not help him in any way with this goal. If Netflix made a series for this book, it most likely would go day by day in his life, like how most of the chapters are written. The first episode would be Moving day when he is packing up all his belongings and heading out to Minnesota while recapping his life story and explaining who he is to the audience. The next day would be the first day of school and the troubles he faces fitting in. It would keep going day by day detailing the hunt his English teacher and dads best friend sends him on to figure out his real true self and realize you don’t need to hide or change who you are for others because the true you is the real you and you can never hide that.
