First day of reading is for students enjoyment, second and third day of reading is when the teacher teaches concepts about reading. The last day of reading is when the students focus on particular words when reading the story. The students actively participate in the reading. 

Advantages: 
  •  Introduces new vocabulary.
  • Allows teacher to model fluent reading.
  • Allows students to enjoy reading in a nonthreatening environment. 
  • A way to introduce books that would otherwise be beyond the comprehension of a student if they tried to read it alone. 

Disadvantages:
  • Students can be potentially left behind. When the class reads all together there could possibly be one student that doesn't understand.
  • Can be difficult for a teacher to assess student learning. 
  • Can be hard to find an appropriate book that is good for all the students.

Disadvantages:
  • Can be time consuming.
  • Can be difficult for some students to follow along.

  • Good for brushing up on old concepts already learned.

Disadvantages:
  • Some students could be left behind because of the quickness of the lesson.
  • Low commitment because students know its a short lesson and will be over soon.
  • Can't be used for new concepts.

Teachers show the book, summarize it without giving away the ending, and read a short excerpt. Students do the same thing when they give book talks to the class. 

Advantages:
  • Motivates readers.
  • Builds vocabulary.
  • Allows students to become familiar with other books.
  • Exposes students to different genres and authors.
  • Allows students to have teacher modeling and then to learn and do it for themselves.
Disadvantages:
  • Can be difficult for teachers to get feedback on the extent of the students learning.
  • Students are passive learners because there is nothing to ensure that they are intellectually engaged in the learning. 
  • Information is forgotten quickly since they are passive learners.

The student then reads the passage and fills in the missing words, using their knowledge of syntax and semantics to predict the missing word.

  • Improves reading and listening comprehension.
  • Enhances vocabulary skills.
  • Works on knowledge of sentence structure.
  • Allows teacher to assess reading levels.
Disadvantages:
  • Can frustrate students.
  • Students are just guessing words and not fully comprehending the reading.
