In paragraph 2 first sentence. His original owner was judge Miller, they had a huge house it was was the same size as a castle hidden from the mist of the trees. It explains that buck is a mixed breed by saying he is not an outside dog or a kennel dog. "Buck lived at a big house in the sun-kissed Santa Clara Valley. Judge Miller’s place, it was called. It stood back from the road, half hidden among the trees, through which glimpses could be caught of the wide cool veranda that ran around its four sides." pg 2. Judge Miller was his caretaker for now until the next chapter of call of the wild. The Tone of this chapter Calm because Nothing is really happening in this chapter but just explaining where Buck lived and looked like. They still explain where buck lives with the "The house were approached by graveled driveways which wound about through wide-spreading lawns and under the interlacing boughs of tall poplars. At the rear things were on even a more spacious scale than at the front. There were great stables, where a dozen grooms and boys held forth, rows of vine-clad servants’ cottages, an endless and orderly array of outhouses, long grape arbors, green pastures, orchards, and berry patches."

Buck rushed at the splintering wood, sinking his teeth into it, surging and wrestling with it. "Wherever the hatchet fell on the outside, he was there on the inside, snarling and growling, as furiously anxious to get out as the man in the red sweater was calmly intent on getting him out." pg 4. The Club was represented as a weakness of buck and buck never attacked a man because of it was the "Law of Club and Fang".  The tone of this chapter is scary because Buck is taken away from his family and taken to the man in the red sweater beat Buck with a wooden club and is moved to someone else. The tone of this chapter is sad because of how buck was hit with no hesitation.

"Spitz was equally willing. He was crying with sheer rage and eagerness as he circled back and forth for a chance to spring in. Buck was no less eager, and no less cautious, as he likewise circled back and forth for the advantage. But it was then that the unexpected happened, the thing which projected their struggle for supremacy far into the future, past many a weary mile of trail and toil." This just says what spitz feels most of the time which is not good for a leader, yes I said, leader, this unfair, whining baby is more of a boss than a leader if you ask me. I would have done the same thing buck would have done just way more worst. The tone of this story is very dramatic because this where buck and Spitz start their beef with each other and I'm not talking about the beef you can eat.

So for a while, the struggle to reassign the dog to there new position. Sol-lek refuse just as well and every other dog. But they tried to put Sol-lek ith e front where the leader is supposed to be but they were left with no choice but to put Buck there even after what he had done to Spitz. "Buck trotted up to the place Spitz would have occupied as the leader; but Francois, not noticing him, brought Sol-leks to the coveted position. In his judgment, Sol-leks was the best lead-dog left. Buck sprang upon Sol-leks in a fury, driving him back and standing in his place." pg 13. The tone of the story is very intense because Francois is having to make a decision on putting Buck in the position where Spitz used to be and when he put Buck in the position it all up to buck to lead the dogs.

In the snowy weather, the dog's feet feel like they are being stabbed my million little needles. This is the reason why buck has shoes called muffs to keep his feet warm from the cold of the snow out. Now every time they leave Buck lays on his back with his paws up waiting for the muffs. For a leader dog it pretty important to keep these on to help him walk (   or lead the sled dogs ) "Thirty days from the time it left Dawson, the Salt Water Mail, with Buck and his mates at the fore, arrived at Skaguay. They were in a wretched state, worn out and worn down. Buck’s one hundred and forty pounds had dwindled to one hundred and fifteen. The rest of his mates, though lighter dogs, had relatively lost more weight than he. Pike, the malingerer, who, in his lifetime of deceit, had often successfully feigned a hurt leg, was now limping in earnest. Sol-leks was limping, and Dub was suffering from a wrenched shoulder-blade. "pg. They are still recovering from the long trail and have much more they need to do. The tone of this chapter is relieved to be done.

The more buck gets stronger the call of the wild gets The sled team in the last chapter get wiped out and it up to John Thornton and Buck with a few other dogs to find a shelter to stay at. While on their way there they take short breaks to recover on energy but the thing is that on one of the stops that they take John Thornton ask Buck to jump off a cliff to test bucks loyalty Buck jumps but gets stopped mid-jump so he wouldn't die. "A thoughtless whim seized Thornton, and he drew the attention of Hans and Pete to the experiment he had in mind. “Jump, Buck!” he commanded, sweeping his arm out and over the chasm. The next instant he was grappling with Buck on the extreme edge, while Hans and Pete were dragging them back into safety." pg. 23 and the tone of this chapter it was intense because of the part where Buck jumps off a cliff.

When John started to notice that buck was leaving a lot he started to think about how his life would be without a girlfriend and without a dog. He started to become grateful for what he had then put all the gold back well not all of it but he kept enough to build a house and get food. When John was ready to go to told Buck that he was going to leave and that Buck can stay here with his friends. While John Thornton and Charles were leaving the gold mine they run into a pack of a tribe that owned the territory and John Thornton was killed. " As Buck slid along with the obscureness of a gliding shadow, his nose was jerked suddenly to the side as though a positive force had gripped and pulled it. He followed the new scent into a thicket and found Nig. He was lying on his side, dead where he had dragged himself, an arrow protruding, head and feathers, from either side of his body." pg. 30. The tone of this chapter was sad because of the John Thorntons death and how he was willing to give up Buck.
