Birth control is a kind of medicine that contains hormones. The hormones can differ depending on which kind you take. You take one pill everyday at the same time. Because of the way birth control works, you never actually get a real period when taking it, you actually get withdraw bleeding. Withdraw bleeding occurs when the levels of your hormones drop. This only simulates a women's "real" period and is generally a lot lighter and has less cramping or other symptoms than "real" periods.
